It seems quite clear that RK will want to play with a big target man.

Benteke , Giroud and Dzeko all fit the bill and are proven in England with decent scoring records and ability to hold up play. Despite some of the nonsense written on here none of them are "terrible" or "gash".

However none of them press , run the channels or have pace.

The same could be said of Jose but he is unproven in this country and from memory his scoring record isn't great.

Bakambu has genuine pace and does press but again unproven.

What I cant work out is where this leaves Sandro who despite his height plays CF or at least left side drifting into the centre. He does have pace , presses and a good scoring record albeit in his debut season in La Liga. I don't think he would have signed without the promise of game time.

Rooney will obviously play most games.

So we could play all 3 up top but none of them will give you defensive cover .

Obviously I know you need a decent squad and we have rotation but I am referring to our first choice XI.

And if he signed where would Siggurdson play ? Attacking midfield ? Thought that was Klassen .

Interesting times ahead - guess it's why RK get the big bucks.

I dont think there will be a "first XI" as such. There will be rotatjon to suit tactics/formation to suit games. Options, especially in the forward areas.

i just think if you chuck 40-50 million at Inter for Icardi or someone like that you'd at least get around the table and like you say teams over there can't afford to turn down serious bids. It might be a bit unrealistic but thats the level and profile of player you should be getting for that money.

They're demanding £40m for Perisic mate.

They'd want £60/70m, at least, for Icardi.

I don't disagree that that's what £50m should get you, but it just won't go that far in this market.

My issue with Benteke is nothing to do with the teams he's played for. I genuinely couldn't care less if we signed John Aldridge tomorrow if I knew he was going to score 30 goals and win us the league.

What I think is a major issue though, is that people thought Lukaku was lazy and never really took to him despite him scoring 25 goals last year. Benteke makes Lukaku look Stracqualursi in terms of effort - when he can't be bothered he really can't be bothered and might as well not be there - and probably won't score as many goals either.

I am pretty sure we will sign a striker from the Premier League before the window closes. Might cost more than we think it should but it isn't our money. Be nice to find a Mahrez/Kante type bargain if we can.

I'd be a bit "meh" about Benteke, I think he's almost a poor mans Lukaku, but like our former centre forward he does know where the net is.

That said, he acted like a massive turd at Villa and seems to be coasting through his football career, so its a massive swerve for me.

Dzeko for a couple of seasons would be nice!

Utterly irrelevant. The net spend argument (as I and others have been saying for a while) is over a longer run period than one single season.

Look, just about everyone in the game knows that at sometime in this league you have to have a massive period of spending to keep your own best players and attract world class talent at the top end of the market. Then you can player trade to your hearts content and balance books for a couple of seasons if need be.

Why on earth are some fans trying to give a free pass on this to a club owner?

Dont do his work for him, hold his feet to the fire and make sure we're not just churning over the cash from player sales...which IS what we're seeing now.

'Kin ell, podcasts from Evertonians "proving" that their lord and master with the wallet that never actually opens is doing us a favour by not spending more than we take in.

We have sort of done that with Onyekuru and Sandro. Gana last season.

I am certain Walsh will be trawling everywhere to find the very best players for the best outlay.

There is just a general lack of high quality strikers available in general.
Watching old footage of Rooney versus what Lukaku can bring to the table, they are miles apart in talent.
30+ year olds Messi and Ronaldo are still the best players in the world and have dominated for almost a decade.

I think the effects of money is taking away that desire for players to push themselves for perfection.

He won't fit it in the style of Mertens, Insigne, Callejon running in behind etc.

But I suppose it depends if Sarri wants the option to mix it up. And given they have CL I doubt he'll want to sell.

hes nothing like lukuka apart from being black and belgian.
not fussed either way if we signed him.
