I think the idea that the Shaqiri move is 'confirmed' has gained a lot of traction because of the hysterical momentum anything gains when one 'media outlet' rewords another source's reporting of the situation.
I think he doesn't want to go, but if Inter are unable to convince him to take the Stoke move, then they would want to engineer some bargaining power with us rather than just relinquish to the next-highest bidder... so in a way it's probably just as good as confirming we won't sign him, even if he doesn't end up going to Stoke (I don't see us bidding higher, if there was indeed any serious intention to bid at all).
All speculation, of course... 'tis the thread for it though. Who knows, maybe he'd think he's too good for us, too.
