it's not like some sort of tax disc renewal that people may forget about, people go the game every other week, they know when the season ends and starts. They know when to buy the ST and when not. Such a stupid stupid idea.

It relates to a living person, and it could be used (in combination with the seat that it's attached to) to identify them. A seat number is identifying enough if there's a season ticket goes with it. Literally attaching a bit of someone's purchase history to a seat in a public venue is sailing close to the wind, even if it's not a breach as such.

No one's going to get the high court to grant them a lifetime season ticket off the back of it, but if enough people kicked up a fuss, the Information Commissioner's Officer would probably put the club on the naughty step and fine them a couple of Seamus Colemans.

If anyone's arsed, the primary victory is not having the club do it again next season - and on the reaction so far, they've probably learned their lesson.

unless the club breaks data protection rules by disclosing the details of the person who holds the season ticket that corresponds to it

No LOL. As a lifelong Blue that picture infuriates me. Its also a very very public display of
1. the incompetence of the marketing department to sell season tickets
2. the desperation of the Board to get seats sold so they can mortgage those seats in another poor deal with VIBRAC and thus paper over the cracks elsewhere in this flawed business plan
2. the effects of the quality of the product served up this season
3. the reality of how football has fallen out of the financial reality faced by most fans.... Take the thousands like me and my mates who have gone to extraordinary lengths to follow the team to Lille, Wolfsburg, Berne, Krasnodar and Kiev etc this year. Simply don't have the money to renew right now and so 10 of us publicly shamed today.
