He's definitely one of my favourite Everton players of the last decade. Some of the link up play between him and Baines was just unbelievable, pretty much telepathic, we've suffered a lot as a side in terms of being creative since that partnership broke up. Genuinely dont think I've seen a pair in world football link up so regularly and successfully as them two used to do in their pomp!!

I tend to forget about how good Pienaar actually was for us. We all know that move to Tottenham was the worst thing he did, but when fit he still isn't a bad player. Gutted he's spent so long injured. The link up play between him and Baines was different gravy, something we really miss at the minute.

One of the most talented players we've had at the club for many a year, shame his and Baines link up play and Lukuaka on the end of the crosses never really happened in the same era.

Yeah definitely mate.

More that that for me, was that at his peak, his workrate was top notch and his level of effort set the tone for the rest of the side. We were at our best when he was truly on his game in that era.

People used to try and say he wasn't important as his goals and assists tally was never that high, but they spectacularly missed the point of what he brought to the side.

I don't see Liverpool still paying to have Jan molby on the bench. Why are we paying players who are nowhere good enough. Osman/peanuts/Tony, Tony tony.... jeez. Great little player in his time mind u.

because it would cost us more money to terminate their contract now than it would to pay the however many weeks they have left.

Pienaar is the type of Guy Id have coaching youngsters ! The way he plays is how football should be played for me ! other than his finishing which is terrible !

Osman too. Tidy ballplayers with good close-control. Also a crap finisher, tho'.

....I recall the players saying he was definitely the most talented footballer at the club. Loved watching him in his prime, especially that mercurial partnership he had with Baines.

.....his finish against Arsenal at the Emirates wasn't too bad.

Pienaar and Osman both have the odd lovely goal, but often in-game their shooting was mild to say the least.

as Dringo said: tidy ballplayers are a good choice to coach kids as they're starting out.

If you don't rate Pienaar, you probably chip passes into the corners and goal-hang in five a-side.

Unlike Howard and Hibbert, he doesn't need a moment in the sun next week because he has actually has a boss career to look back on.
