Steven Pienaar

Look, the lad was once a cracking player, but like everyone, age has caught up with him.

That doesn't mean he needs slating for basically getting on a bit.

This is not a reaction that is unique to Pienaar - Tony Hibbert came in for some stick for basically being old until he played well last week. Can't people remember that these were once decent Everton players? Are we going to say Neville Southall was crap because he's old now? Of course not, so apply that to all players.......

Criticism is healthy when relevant and sensible, but sometimes people need to remember they'll be older themselves one day. Sometimes the criticisms people come out with are on the silly side.

I've noticed if players of a certain age don't put in a match winning performance they are finished according to some

As I wrote a couple of days ago, the abuse the likes of Weir and Cahill got when they were coming to the end of their time was ridiculous. It's like anything they have previously done is completely forgotten.

Can you imagine "never mind that he won two leagues and an FA cup and a European cup winners cup, Kevin Ratcliffe is slow now and therefore was crap for his whole career"?

Of course not, it's silly.

Ratters took dogs abuse at the end of his career though mate, when Kendall was playing him at full back and his legs had very obviously gone.

It was sad to see and not befitting for a club legend, but he was finished and it was obvious to everyone barring Howard at that time.

I wouldn't want to see Pienaar take the same sort of stick in the last couple of games, as he showed at the pit that age has definitely caught up with him, as he looked like he was running in treacle.

Personally thought Stevie was never about pace though. He could spot a pass, Was terrific at going down at the right moment to earn a freekick for leighton to inevetably score from. The P has not been given a roll this season..thinks his treatment has been poor so why would he be turning up trees for a manager who just wants rid of him. Played in the same roll as before (with the old manager) I would guarantee some magic being played....He's never EVER been about tracking back...it's his forward play we relied on for years. People dont want him playing....That's fine but who have we replaced him with ffs....has anyone else equalled the partnership Bainaar had. NO !! Give him his send off ya ungrateful lot....he (if no one else) deserves it. Imho.x

Yeah Reid got it too. Pienaars job the past few years seems to be come onto the pitch get the ball and then fall on it to try and draw a foul.
