Steven Pienaar

Steven, even at his best, was THE black hole of basketball. Always played like the only guy on the field and incessantly was trapped out of balls. I yelled "Steven!" every game! But then again, the crew with him, Fellani, Jelavic and Anchebee beat ManU and Arsenal and relatively overachieved with David Moyes vs this underachieving bunch.......

Everton winger Steven Pienaar is completely focused on his Everton comeback, and not on a move to Ajax, despite his agent being misquoted by many media outlets today.

His agent, Rob Moore, has been cited as saying that the South African could look to leave Everton at the end of the season, with Ajax touted as his destination. However, these stories are based on the South African National Football Team’s Twitter account version of Moore’s statement.

Moore was speaking to Ajax news site, Ajax Showtime, when he made the comments, which included the fact that Pienaar still has a special place in his heart for the Dutch side, as well as ties with Amsterdam. As a quick note for the Echo reporters, the original article is less than halfway down the page in a quick Google search for “Rob Moore Steven Pienaar”.

Moore actually said, “Steven likes Ajax. His partner is an Amsterdam. He also owns property there.

“Ajax is for Steven as a first love and first love always hold a special place in the heart.

“Maybe Pienaar is open for a return, but at this time it is especially important that Steven is back on the field for Everton.
“After that we will see in the coming months.

“Steven has had extremely bad luck with injuries in the last year, maybe eighteen months. It was incredible.

“But he is about to make his comeback and I believe he will soon be playing again. “

One of my favourite Everton players this century, brilliant on his day, and his telepathic relationship with Baines was a thing of wizardry. I'd love to see him get a few games under his belt and make impacts as a substitute by the end of the season, especially if it's to win us the cup(s).

Well spotted Goat.

Pienaar WAS a top player and as the agent stated, he's been injured for 12-18months now and that's a long time out and surely will have affected his playing ability.

He's never had real pace and i'd hope he can keep playing to a high level, just cant see him getting to the level we need...would be happy to be proved wrong but think he should move on now or when his contract is up in summer.

Tonight is exactly how he should be used going forward. When we're under pressure and badly need someone to just get the ball under control and win us a few cheap free-kicks so we can breathe. Hopefully Stevie can stay fit now and make a real contribution over the the rest of the season.

All true, plus he's very busy defensively and must annoy the opposition by buzzing around them. His best days are behind him, but his work ethic is still top notch.
