he looked good in pre-season as well for me. we're pretty blessed in the winger positions. i know we need another backup striker, but apart from that, our attack is fine.

defence looks leaky though

His and LB's partnership is amazing, taking on the same wavelength to the next level. Great to see it properly back today.

Without a doubt. Baines/Pienaar was our strongest weapon under Moyes and I was kind of disappointed in not seeing it too much under Martinez.

I'm glad it was utilised today, because their play was world class.

Not been his biggest fan by any means, but him and Baines looked great today, like their former selves. Line up against Arsenal has to be;

Howard
Coleman Jagielka Distin Baines
Mirallas McCarthy Besic Pienaar
Naismith
Lukaku

If you look at our second goal today, any other full back would've put that in the box, whereas Baines was looking to pull it back to Pienaar. It's amazing to watch.

Agree. 95% of fullbacks would look for the low, hard cross. Very little full backs have such a good understanding to know where the LMF/RMF to return the ball them. Today really showed why teams shat themselves when they came up against Baines/Pienaar.

David Pleat mentioned how impressive Baines, Pienaar and Naismith were linking up several times. I don't think Pienaar has got the legs for the full 90 any more though, but at least we have other options in that postition.
