Ancelotti doesn't need someone to tell him who we should sign.

It makes utterly no sense to me. We have a top manager so what is the actual point of a DOF when they are far less qualified to judge a player.

The story doing the rounds at the time was that Brands wanted to stand by Marco. Probably as he wanted someone without the authority to challenge him.

Whilst the answer is obviously Walsh, I'm still waiting to see the mystical powers that Brands was/is legendary for. Whoever was and is in charge, the reality is that we've got a 3/10 strike rate on decent signings.

Only decent recruiter I can remember was Moyes. Roberto had a good start, mainly due to Chelsea forcing him to take Lukaku, but it ended with him signing Niasse!

These days you want a coach rather than a manager. A dof can take away all the faff that Carlo doesn't need on his plate. But when it comes to buying players it should be 100% Carlo's choice. They live and die by their signings so it's got to be him that makes them.
