According to some hack in the red echo.This man gave a speech to the team before Wednesday mornings training session, ahead of the Chelsea match.If true, is that not a breach of David Unsworths authority as team manager?This fella is here to sign the players.What's he doing giving speeches to the team?He shouldn't be anywhere near the training pitch imo.The training pitch area and it's environs, should only be for Unsy, his coaching staff, medical personal and players.
what you need to realise is that Walsh was Unsworths old PE teacher and I think manager at schoolboy level for Lancashire, Unsy has a massive respect for Walsh and is using him as his assistant and may well appoint him to a more hands on role if he gets the job full time

Not a fan of Director of Football but Walsh worked as assistant manager at Leicester alongside Craig Shakespeare so why has he not done this at Everton.
By working alongside the 1st team, he would see close up where recruitment is needed (tho we all knew we need a striker and a left back) but he also worked with the current crop of players including U23s so his advice to promote players to the 1st team.
I think Koeman had his say as Coach and didn’t use him in the same role and use his own team which lead to their relationship to become strained.
Unsworth has brought him in with Ebbrell, Royle and Dunc. I think he needs Walsh in order to get the JOB so not surprised he is working with him.

Despite all the gloom this is probably one of the busiest Everton have ever been in terms of ins and outs and a significant upturn since Walsh was appointed.

I agree. I was just responding to Bob Elstone about ‘catastrophic recruitment’ The only big mistake was Klassen imo. That money should’ve been spent elsewhere.

Should we blame Walsh for selling Lukaku?
Not sure if the transfer failings were down to Walsh or Koeman or both because I don't know what goes on behind closed doors. I'm also not really sure what Walsh does day to day in his DoF role, whether its negotiating deals or scouting. I think there has been a clash of now and buying for the future with no signs of working together. Do we think Koeman was employed to make us compete quickly for top 4 whilst Unsworth develops his coaching and Walsh brings in the future stars for Unsworth? Looking at it now I can't see why we employed Koeman. We should have went for a long term manager willing to work alongside the youth set up. Complete clash of expectations between them all.
In terms of transfers I'd guess that Schneiderlin, Klassen, Gylfi, Williams and to a point Rooney are Koeman signings and Giroud being a Koeman target, that's a significant amount of money spent there and all for the 'now'. For all we know Walsh could have given Koeman a long list of young potential forwards but Koeman wanted quick success so ignored them for a Giroud or Costa because he was in a hurry. The signings I think that are down to Walsh and Unsworth working together are Lookman, Gueye, Mathis, Adeniran, DCL, Pickford, Foulds, Gibson, Markelo, Donkor etc. Some of them are already showing a lot of potential and could be brilliant in the future so we probably won't see the benefits until 2 or 3 seasons. I don't think we should sack Walsh at all but just adjust his role because I think he has a great eye for young players and will work well with Unsworth if he gets the job.
