Well the fact that we have gone after him speaks volumes to me. Moyes knows the game and this guy has obviously got a bit about him.

What do you think Moyes looks for in a number 2 though?

Personally i'd like to see a coach with a good 5 years experience of being an assistant manager in a top European league with plenty of Uefa and Champs league experience.

Whether someone like that exists, and if so we would get him i dont know but i think European experience is vital if we are to progress there.

But what manager would bring in an assistant that has more knowledge and experience than himself. That would lead to ego clashes I think.

One who knows its in the best interests of the club?

He doesnt have to have more knowledge than Moyes overall, Moyes will still be the man in charge. But he will have knowledge and experience of European football which Moyes lacks.

I'm living in an ideal world though i know, but its what id like to see rather than who i think we will actually get.

On the brighter side Moyse must be staying no matter what the transfer cash or he would not bring in a number 2 I was hoping for Clarke though:mellow:

Ehm i seem to remember Boro winning the Carling Cup, being in the Uefa Cup Final, and he was in the England set up!

Steve Round is poised to exchange life as Newcastle United's first-team coach for a role assisting David Moyes at Everton, but his move to Goodison Park may be hijacked by a last-minute approach from Chelsea. Accordingly Everton, where Moyes has been working without a No2 since Alan Irvine's departure for the manager's job at Preston North End last November, are keen to finalise the Round deal this weekend.
Chelsea are believed to have given serious consideration to the idea of recruiting the 37-year-old former Middlesbrough and England coach but, with all new backroom appointments on hold until Luiz Felipe Scolari begins work as the London club's manager, Everton's move for Round appears timely.

Unsure me.........

If we complain about Newcastle players not being good enough for our team? Then surely the same must apply for coaches? We we would not take Keegan, Roeder or any of the multiple failed managers. I struggle to see the difference myself........

I wonder if he's out of contract very soon and would be free?

Clarke indeed would have had a better wealth of experience to bring to us I feel............

Thats better than nothing but still nowhere near the experience i'd want.

Plus Boro really rode their luck in that UEFA run before it ran out in the final, an assistant who has proven himself over many seasons as having success on the european front would be a much better choice.

Preferably with a European club rather than an English one.

Who would you like then?

I have no idea! I dont know enough of foreign leagues to name names but someone who has similar experience to what i said before.

I just believe that someone with a good knowledge of European football and success in a top European league will really beneift the club and help take us forward.

Maybe someone from a German/Spanish team who in the last 5 years have finished regualry in the top 6 and had good runs in both the UEFA cup and champions league but is happy to take a back seat and not be the main man.

They might not exist but it would be nice imo.

But there in lies the problem anyone whos had that measure of success, is likely either to have aspirations to manage themselves or would want to ply their skills regularly with a team in the champions leauge, lets face it success and ambition go hand in hand.

I dont really get the criticism of coaches not being from a foregin leauge i mean England is part of Europe, and surely coaches have as much knowledge of other leauges as their foregin counterparts, i mean any coach can only be in one leauge at a time.

Round has expierence of a major European final (the fact Boro rode their luck to the final would indicate a bit of tactical nouas rather then the quality on the pitch), a domentic final and an international set up that is a hell of a lot of expeirence for someone so young (37), you would be pushed to find an assistant with similar expierence.
