Steve Round being groomed for the Managers Job?

If I had a choice, I would keep Moyes.
If not I would be inclined to go for a winner from elsewhere, Bruce Arena or Ariel Jacobs, something obscure but successful, no point in trying to recycle average managers in the hope they will finally produce a string of stunning seasons when they havn't before.
I wouldn't however go as far afield as appointing our assistant manager, unless Moyes thinks he's good enough, in which case good enough for me.

It's not about quality for me. Round could make an excellent manasger elsewhere but not with the same bunch of players who are used to not seeing him as the boss.

Good point, he would have to work very, very hard to get their respect after being the whipping boy for so long, having said that, he could have one of the best tactical minds in football for all we know.
Whoever it is, its going to be a massive punt but I would at least want a manager to replace someone of Moyes quality.

Can't believe this was even discussed seriously. He would be a terrible appointment, IMO. I'd rather have Irvine, and he didn't turn out to be good as a manager.

Also, Everton do not have a history of getting managers in on the cheap. Getting Moyes from Preston wasn't cheap IIRC, and represented something like a 10million pound investment at the time.

The last odds that I saw had him as the favourite for the job! There's too much at stake and the league is too competitive to find out whether a coach can hack it as a manager though.

whoever is appointed will be a gamble but I see Round as a gamble that wouldn't have a long term negative effect if it doesn't work out. I would have to say my instinct is that exciting managerial appointments are normally a bad idea compared to boring ones. I want the flair on the pitch not the dugout. I think that the squad will be roughly the same and I would just like to see some more imagination in using them. Whether its Round or Moyes who has pushed for caution when a more positive approach was called for is something be nice to find out. plenty of managers I would like to see at Goodison before Round but its all based on how I would respond to them if I was playing, absolutely no way of saying any bunch of players will..look at Clough at Leeds

I want a commitment to confident and capable football... I have doubts over whether that is the style Round would employ. Other than that I have no qualms. He knows the players and the club and must have learnt a great deal working with Moyes

yeah that sums it up. I have read everything I can about Round and still unsure. Cant see it being a really bad idea but we wont get someone who is 100% proven, My only feeling is that even if we 5th, 6th or 7th for next few seasons, I don't want to feel like we blew it

Morning All!

As it's a quiet news day with Everton just thought I would float a theory out there and ask if anyone thinks Steve Round is being groomed as the manager in waiting should Moyes go at the end of the season?

I know this sounds like a long-shot but recently he seems more and more involved in the media side of things, is clearly very highly thought of within the club & (in true Everton fashion!) could be a fairly cheap in-house replacement should the opportunity arrive. Just watched a clip on the Everton main site where he was talking about scouting games for future recruitment in the summer. Also, it seems like the club has a conveyer-belt system already in place with the likes of Duncan Ferguson already involved at a lower level coaching at the club & players like Phil Neville already taking there coaching badges. Plus, I notice Alan Irvine is now in back at the club as an 'academy manager', maybe he could assume the 'experienced deputy' to the rookie manager?

I'm not saying I would be a huge fan of this (I doubt many would be), but does anyone think this could be feasible? It would financially make sense for sure.
I hope not, i'd like to think Alan Irvine would be a preferable option to Steve Round, no offence to the guy but Alan "gets" it
