Spurs

Yeah something tells me that spurs won’t be the only one taking this option. It also puts paid to the idea of a mini tournament happening anytime soon as those non playing staff will be the ones expected to do all the leg work to make it happen.

But how will Harry Kane survive ONLY making £160k/week instead of £200k??

You cant really furlough players though. Well you can like, but its capped at £2.5k per month and I'm not sure many players will be up for that....

The players would need to agree to a unilateral pay cut themselves.

Unless the players have agreed to 20% pay cuts then it looks very bad to cut normal staff wages by 20%. That could make a difference to their lives. 20% cut for players means nothing to their lifestyle.

Saw this and thought surely this will be followed up by an announcement about players taking a cut.
It may well be. I honestly wouldn't jump into making too many assumptions until everything comes out. There's a lot of clubs who are hemorrhaging wages at the moment when there is no income. Newcastle have done the same as Spurs and this will be the norm I reckon sooner than later.

And as for player wages, I can see that some agreements will be made as a few of the continental clubs have announced about the players taking a 'voluntary' cut.

As per @Blueclouds comment, I hope we don't follow this route. People depend on that wage. The club needs to try and show the way on how to behave. Also selfishly, the clubs that don't cut wages will stand out in recruitment and retention of the best staff. Tricky times ahead.

That disgusting. Hope Everton dont take this route. The option is players should take a wage cut and that would cover the wages for non playing staff

Just playing devils advocate I guess London wages would be a fair bit higher than ours meaning a bigger impact. Of course they earn more too so depending on contracts that bring money into the club they are probably being cheeky. But who knows, perhaps their kit deals etc. had some kind of stipulation during a shutdown.

I'm hoping the Mosh just bankrolls the whole club just to show future players that the ends meet like a mofo here!

Social media would be nothing without its outrage.
Lets wait & see where all the clubs are at the end of June & then we can start slinging mud in earnest.

Im not disagreeing.

His argument would be we have £700mn worth of debt to service.

I also think people should wait & see where the dust settles before making judgement. Although social media is not really known for its patience.
At the end of the day, a multi million pound company is asking the government for financial help when the resources are really meant for businesses that are in danger of going under.

If clubs who aren’t making as much money (Everton) are paying full wages, there’s no reason for Spurs not to be doing the same.

I think there needs to be some sort of FFP time out which is what some teams have been pushing for.

I agree.

And i reiterate, Levy is a business man. All he cares about (which is his job as a Joe Lewis employee) is the bottom line.

Then as a fanbase I think you should be making it clear to the club that it isn’t acceptable.

Football is, or was, the working man’s game and clubs like Tottenham, unfortunately for you, are a poison to it. Look at the price of your match day tickets, etc. It’s a disgusting.

Player salaries should be up for discussion, not normal working class people’s salaries.

You’re one of the richest clubs in world football. You can afford to keep these people on. Losing 20% of your salary is huge.

We turn over a lot less than you and we are keeping our staff on full pay.

They might be paying them the 20% so they might not be having a pay cut at all.

If people (idiots) like me don't give up their STs when per match prices rise 93% in a season, this is hardly likely to change their mind.

If i jack in my ST, there are plenty of football tourists/day trippers/Heng Min Son fans to take my place.

im really hoping this forces the game to change for the better now. I see Daniel Levy made a comment in his statement about summer transfer and that people need to wake up and get real or words to that effect. Can you imagine if after doing this spurs or any club for that matter have the audacity to splash £50m on a player without there being widespread condemnation of it?

Exactly.

Which is why i advised that everyone taking up an early position on the moral high ground should keep their powder dry.
