Hate spiders, saw a big mother in a plastic container in the shed yesterday so I picked the container up and took outside and tried shacking it but it wouldn't come out so I just drowned the thing instead.

A British holidaymaker almost lost his leg after he was bitten by a flesh-eating spider .
Jonathon Hogg, 40, believes he was bitten while travelling on a Qatar Airways flight between Doha and South Africa.
Within hours, the spider venom had begun to eat away at Mr Hogg’s leg.
‘The pain was like nothing I’ve been through in my life,’ he said.

I refuse to throw them out as it can kill them putting them outside. I just name them and let them have the run of the house, just have to shepherd them away from the dogs bed otherwise he'll have them.

Never thought about naming them.... how do you recognise one that you have previously named as against one you've yet to name? lol

Love spiders, always welcome in my house, they get rid of so many other insects.

I actually go one step further and feed the spiders in our house house flies to make sure they stay during the Autumn / Winter. As you've said they eat no end of nasties. We've got a few really big ones that come out at night and leg it across the floor. My missus and the kids hate them, but I enforce a rigorous " no kill " policy !.

The ones that fascinate me are the tiny ones that make cobwebs. How can something that small make such huge webs ?.
