Incredible to think that less than 12 years later mankind would walk on the moon. Our single greatest achievement as a species, and von Braun was very much the leading architect and engineer.

But despite being the driving force behind the Mercury, Gemini and Apollo programmes von Braun was also a former SS officer* who developed the V1 and V2 rockets that killed thousands of civilians, while fully knowing about the 20,000 prisoners who were worked to death at Peenemunde to develop said rockets.

Died of karma of the pancreas aged only 65 but lived to see his vision fulfilled.

*claimed he only joined as they had the best riding school

My response to those who say the earth is flat, or we never went to the moon etc., is to ask why Russia, China, North Korea et al. haven't exposed it?

When you need another conspiracy (a whole world order blah blah) to justify another conspiracy theory, you've almost certainly lost the argument.

Yeah, I've got a similar stock answer - when I was young and smoked too much weed and watched too much X Files I was sure there was a shadowy secret global conspiracy of businesses and clandestine government figures that secretly ran things.

These days, I'm terrified that there isn't.

Firmly believe that it's only because Kennedy and the democrats were running the show for the moon landings, that we have the 'moon landings' were fake conspiracy.

Maybe. I'm more of the camp that it's peoples' limited knowledge of the world exposing itself - otherwise known as their stupidity coming to the fore.

That and a deep underlying issue of insecurity, which forms itself into a distrust of government, scientists and people more knowledge of them.

I don't need to pretend to fully understand the knowledge and expertise needed for someone to reach the moon, but I can wholeheartedly appreciate it.

This works for the other massive denial conspiracy the americans have gone for two footed. How the many liberating forces of the concentration camps could be convinced to tell the perfect singular lie, alongside the staff still there and the survivors and then backed up by the evidence of mass graves and some of the paperwork salvaged, yet some still double down the holocaust didn't happen. Sick sick minds happy to inflict harm.

anyway, dark side of the moon to cross, the time it takes in a straight line being much shorter than the curved radius it'll actually take evidencing the spherical nature of the earths satellite.
