Southgate to remain England manager (For a While)

A charlatan. He left it till today when he wouldn't have to justify for astaying on to announce it.

The reward of failure.

I would have said, "Look, you know the rules. Meeting expectations gets you another chance. Taking another step gets you the third. Failure to at least maintain that level on the third go means someone else gets their innings." I am not the FA, however.

Compare to the managers today. Southgate meekly capitulates 3-0 at the helm of the French. As the Argentine manager, he fails to make the extra time changes that produced a goal threat and loses 3-2, if he starts di Maria at all.

He should be commended for convincing the Three Lions they can play with the world's best, and moved on for someone who can navigate in-match shoals.

I think Howe has already shown himself to be a better club manager than Southgate ever was, and could be a better option at international level given the quality of the England squad. Southgate is loyal to his senior players even when they are clearly out of form.
Howe, Hughton, Pardew and even Gerrard have achieved more in club management.

I suppose that is technically true, but Hughton and Pardew are a bit long in the tooth and I just cant imagine them getting the job. Gerrard has youth on his side but not sure he has the right profile for an England boss, being a bit of a scally. Howe comes across better as a clean-cut Englishman.

It doesn't matter who is managing. England have no chance of silverware. All the other teams who missed out - Spain, Italy, Germany - will be reinventing themselves and they have better players.

Your not a fan of people being successful, not a fan of people unsuccess

southgate has offered an understanding of the pressures of tournament football. We have shed our paranoia of penalties, go into games thinking we can win and made playing for England an honour rather than a burden. The England camp appears happy and united.
We have narrowly lost a game to very good
French side (who has be said were better than they were in the final). Small margins.
Howe would possibly a good choice now but I think Southgate was an important appointment in changing the mind set for England.

I have be honest, I am not a fully committed England fan although I always watch and want them to do well. I can't understand Southgate persisting with players like Henderson and Sterling, and I find the cautious and ponderous approach play from the back very dull to watch.
