Some perspective (from a silly American)

We just endured one of the worst games in a long time. The world is ending, we can't score, we can't defend, we can't manage and we won't spend money. We're in a relegation battle, we'll be playing Watford next year and could be relegated again. We're the new Charlton. David Moyes is the worst, Victor Anichebe is worse than him and Mo Fellaini looked like he never stepped on a football pitch before Sunday. Jermaine Beckford gets no playing time, Johnny Heitinga a world cup finalist?

After everything that has happened over the last 35 hours or so, our beloved Everton is still, yes still, just 3 points out of 9th place in the prem. Yes, we are just 3 points above the drop zone as well but we have more class than all of these teams below us combined. Outside of Fulham getting a point (should have been 3 late) against Chelsea today, it was a pretty good weekend for us as far as those ahead of us are concerned.

We're one game removed from the worst game ever, but we're just two games removed from putting up a 5 spot against Blackpool and lets be honest, it could have been 8 or 9. Maybe this is the beginning of the end for Everton, but I'd like to believe this is the end of the beginning for us.

I leave you with this... I know Independence Day isn't exactly an analogy for EFC, but I'd like to believe the part about us not going quietly into the night rings true.

It's not just the Blackpool game that gives reason for optimism. From the games in 2011, we were excellent against Spurs and Chelsea, and we gave a good account of ourselves against Liverpool and Arsenal. If we can produce a few more games like those - and why shouldn't we - then those relegation nerves will soon stop jangling.

I was afraid the American to English translation of poof wouldn't go well, hence my inclusion of the OP's "yanks" perspective in the quote. I mean, seriously, his hair is poofy.........and it lost it's poof :)

It's not wiki, but...

1 American English poofy hair or clothes look big and soft or filled with air:
a blouse with big poofy sleeves
2 British English informal not polite an offensive word meaning typical of a homosexual man

Yeah... okay.... movin' on.....

KBO everyone ... KBO.

must be the fact that baseball season is rolling around.... always gets me in a good mood

hope springs eternal as they say

Really?!?!?!? Unless you're a Yankees, Sox or Phillies fan I can't see any cause for hope in baseball. Part of the reason I love following the NHL, and especially the NFL, is to counterbalance the sickening inevitability of the Prem. Following MLB, where some teams spend 10 times more than others, is just like the Prem formed a rounders league with all the same horrible inequalities.

But each to their own and all. ;)

I've learned that I can't dwell on the highs and lows of this roller coaster they call "The Evertonian".

Full of joy at one moment and wanting to vomit at the other. It's really a bad drug addiction. You know it's not good for you and most of the time, it makes you feel dirty, spent and wasting away. It's those moments of euphoria (Rodwell's goal against Man Utd at Goodison for one example) that get you hooked.

I know I need to quit it, but I can't or I won't. Either way, its a tough road.

I guess the solace comes in knowing that it wasn't my choice in the first place. Maybe it's the karmic caste system at play. Was I good or bad in my prior life to be an Evertonian now? Actually, that's a pretty damn good question out of "a silly Yank."

apparently someone negative rep'd me for the first post in this thread saying "Americans shouldn't give opinions on football"

stay classy, EFC fans
