Pundits for me should have played at the very highest level as a minimum - preferably in recent years.

They also should be clear and easy to understand.

Their gender, sex, nationality, race etc shouldn't come into it.
Playing at the very top level should have nothing to do with it either. Koeman played at the very top level but is an awful manager. Would you have him as a Sky pundid.
The job should be given to someone with a good on-screen persona and a good knowledge of football. John Motson never played at the highest level but is possibly the greatest football pundit ever.

It seems that using the very fashionable argument of diversity sky has found an opportunity to cut cost...or is it about diversity? Not sure guess we'll find out soon...i just hope that whichever panel they go for is selected based on skill/knowledge and on skill/knowledge alone. Love diversity me but hate diversity for the sake of it.A younger more trendy panel could work but the banter will not be the same and will take time to really show...

Have to assume they’re mixing it up.

Stelling has been teasing retiring for a few years, I reckon he’ll step aside after this year.

Then they’ll try and get PC correct and have a woman, and a player from a BAME background.

fwiw, if you’re good enough then absolutely sound, ill backyou.

But if Clinton Morrison, Sue Smith and Matt Murray are going to be the face of the show, then you’ll have a very bland show.

Would fully expect Mellor, Morrison, Smith and Murray to be very bland.

Either that or they’ll go full 100% soccer am and try make it “LADS LADS LADS”, either way, as much as I dislike Thompson, I enjoyed the soccer Saturday set up.

John Motson is a commentator not a pundit.

Ended my sky subscription after lockdown, utter state having too listen to that tramp Carragher commentating on every one of our games.

Tough enough watching us without him withering on about how poor we are, and how we've wasted a load of money, these are facts but I could do without hearing them from him.

It's an awful shame they didn't have a complete overhaul.

Aye - i could go to the pub. That'd be a 12 mile round trip in a car to the nearest dive showing sky to drink shandy fir an hour and a half. The pub would get cystom through it but Sky would still take their share. I simply refuse to fund them. The thing is the game, in all honesty I cant call it a sport anymore, isn't watchable to me anyway. I've streamed games and found them so tediously boring, compared to matches 25 years ago I switch off. The game has been ruined by money and I blame those who subscribe to sky.

I think after reading that post I can say the pub is probably better off that you don't go.

You sound miserable. I'm not even sure why you're here if it's all as bad as you say it is. Couldn't you find something you enjoy more to follow? I genuinely mean that.

If punting those 3 is part of a cost cutting exercise, realistically how much are they saving? I'd be very surprised if it's more than a hundred thousand a year on each of them. Can anyone see them spending billions on PL rights? The money in the game is going to dry up sooner rather than later.

I think all professional sports are going to face this if the virus continues to impact attendance, and here in the US, even the ability to just play the games.

Which isn't a bad thing. All sports in general over the last 30 years have gotten out of control and need a financial correction. I'm fine with guys getting rich off the game. But you see contracts like Messi and Ronaldo, then you look at American sports where the whole NBA salaries are absurd. Guys making 30 million a year left and right. NFL is starting to get there, they would be there if the rosters weren't 53 per team.

Shame really, I didn’t mind them all, I’m not one to cry over them giving us a hard time. Let’s face it we are crap and probably do deserve the boot sticking in on us. They all had decent chemistry though and it was entertaining.

No doubt sky feel the time is right to go with some no mark woman footballer who has played the equivalent of the business houses league and a squeaky clean white & BAME ex player. Complete sanitisation and the show will lose a lot of what people liked it for.

The sort of pub that shows football here in blighty only tend to serve crappy drinks at premium prices. In my experience of them yes its enough to instil misery.

I'm not genuinely miserable, but I am the worst type of consumer as far as capitalism is concerned: I know what I like, I'm not influenced by advertising, image or peers and I vote with my feet.

If to pass the time I'm going to watch some poor quality product on the tv, like modern pro sport pantomimes, its going to be cheap (that is part of my TV licence) and I'll be supping something nice of my own choice ta, enough to dull the pain. Like I said - driving distance.

Why sgould i compromise?

Lol I completely get your first statement on some bars. This post seems more reasonable to me, I respect people and like being around people who generally aren't influenced by advertisements, or others, and like what they like.

Some of your other points just seemed a tad more extreme. Blaming people who purchase Sky for a bunch of footballs problems. As you like what you like, some people might just enjoy the game. Even if you don't find it as entertaining as it used to be.

I think you're smart enough to probably have thought this before, but what I've realized as I've gotten older, sports lose their allure. You start to see them for what they are and you can't really lose yourself in it like you did growing up. At least that's my experience.
