Just wanted to ask a question, hes absolutley phenomnal hoing forward, but forgetting that how do people rate his defending?

He hasn't been tested against PL opposition. So I have no idea. Only the coaching staff could have a clue, really.

He chipped in tonight. But yea going forward is defo his party trick. If he can defend like Phil too, we have an unbelievable gem on our hands. Time will tell I guess on his defending. I think we'll play a system which covers him a bit when he's on a rampage

I think his defending 1 on 1 is actually quite decent, problem is that he hates to give the ball away and sometimes overcomplicates things because of that, trying to work himself out of trouble.

His style of going forward also requires a quality passing from teammates, too many times in 1st half he was overlapping, yet pass was usually not good enough.

He will get plenty of games upcoming season... but it will be Neville who will start as RB at Ewood Park, especially now, when Fellaini is looking much, much better than we could even hope.

To be honest from what i've seen from him defensive wise he's hardly a million miles worse than Hibbert or Neville, if at all.

He got a right bollocking off Moyes on Sat for being too far forward and letting a long ball over the top find the Norwich winger but have Nev and Hibbert never been caught out of position?

Of course they have.

Plus the more Coleman attacks and makes us a more potent attacking force the less he will have to defend. We just need to see how he gets on being pushed back by a speedy winger but i'd say even if he is worse than Hibbert and Nev defensively we gain more from his attacking skills so its worth playing him.

Unless he does turn out to be completly pants.

looked good tonight. but can he defend?????????????????

always impressed but thats because he looks top going forward.

Could be Bale esque, either at Right Back or the solution to our lack of pace and delivery at Right Mid??

I was thinking the same mate, all of the advantage with none of the risk!

Three things stand out for me, on having him at right back:

1) Hes very small and this is important on set peices.

2) Two really attacking fullbacks in our system leave us very open and exposed and make our centre backs very vulnerable on the counter something we struggled with last season especially against the run of play.

3) I notice that some of his clearences under pressure are back into the danger area - this can be coached i would think but just makes me think its a risk in PL games.

I cant see why he wouldnt be great on the right hand side of midfeild.

A RB high up the pitch means one thing, the counter attack. I expect to see Moyes use him sporadically this season to bed him in and expose him to the actual requirements.

RB high up the pitch quite aften also means, that opposite left winger has to defend him. Just like Sergio Ramos was an additional right winger against Germant and Lukas Podolski was an additional left back.

I thought he was very good tonight, some great breaks down the right into their penalty area and to be honest I seen nothing from him to suggest his defending is suspect, he was robust and strong into the tackle.

He doesn't get enough credit for his play in tight areas, he has some impressive close control and is hard to get the ball off.

I'd start him against Blackburn and I think Moyes might, he's played him often enough.
