Sir Landon Of Donovan

I'd love us to keep him. A good player, relatively unique in our squad who has settled quickly - but at 27 he's not worth big bucks. If I was Moyes I wouldn't want to go far north of £6m.

you think 27 is too old to pay for a transfer? I'd do it all day long myself, but then again I'm not Moyes.

First half Donovan looked ace compared to second because of strategy. I think Moyes had Donovan back off a bit in the second when he picked up that yellow card - didn't want to risk a second, and given how suspect the first yellow was, Donovan probably didn't want to risk a second himself.... So yeah I saw a huge toning down of his game after the yellow.

I think the biggest thing holding Donovan back right now is Neville, and i'm not attacking Neville, just saying I don't think they have proper chemistry (yet?).

I definitely think LD is good for Everton, much like Everton is good for LD. It would behoove both sides to make something long-term for sure. I think Moyes comment is a trick one - obviously Landon will return to MLS after the loan, but perhaps after the World Cup we might see LD making the permanent move. (y)

Never say never!

I would like him to stay, but don't think that it is likely to happen. He criticized Beckham for extending his loan spell last season, so he won't extend his this season. Also I don't think Everton would want to pay as much as LA Galaxy would want for him. It is a shame though.

Donovan's Everton gamble paying off

Landon Donovan made what could be considered one of the biggest gambles of his career earlier this winter, and it is paying off in a way few could have imagined.

Donovan’s big gamble wasn’t going to Everton on loan in order to take a fourth run at European soccer.

It wasn’t agreeing to a short-term loan move that would include matches against a murderer’s row of top English clubs.

It wasn’t even taking on a brutal schedule of matches just four months before the 2010 world Cup.

No, Donovan’s gamble was trading away the chance to leave MLS in two years on a free transfer in order to have the opportunity to test himself in the world’s toughest league now.

Donovan is passing that test with flying colors, with his masterful effort in Everton’s 2-1 win against Premier League leaders Chelsea on Wednesday as the latest proof that Donovan can more than just hang in England, he can thrive.

IT GOES ON... CHECK OUT THE ARTICLE....

The basic point is that Donovan had to sign the contract to get a crack at the EPL. Now the only way he can stay is with a new deal, and Ives theorizes that he is more likely to return after the World Cup than stay straight through...

That's his theory, anyway....

lcab do you know where the problem, if there is one, lies?

I think you'll find that the main problem is that he's only got a contract till March, and it's because he is keeping fit prior to going back to Galaxy, to whom he only recently signed an extensive contract just before coming to Everton.

I don't really understand why anyone with his talent would want to waste his time in the American leagues, no offence guys but unless your playing in the English, Spanish or Italian leagues than you'll never realise your potential.

Can't see it happening myself, price probably to high. Wouldn't mind having Kenwright splash the cash on him though.

OK-- so here is my win - win - win scenario:

Everton and Galaxy agree that LD will:

A/Extend the loan through the end of the season

B/Play in the World Cup

C/Return to the Galaxy for their season through the summer and fall--a valedictory tour for the MLS

D/Return to Everton at the end of the year for good

There--that's the scenario. You heard it here first.

Now you guys sort out the money!

I really don't think money comes into it. If we want the guy and he wants to come to us, and LA Galaxy are happy to let him go, then we would go and get him.

There's just far too many obstacles in the way, like contracts and the fact he plays for LA Galaxy and not Everton (not perm anyway).

Have to disagree there. Frankly, it is all about the money.
If Everton come up with the right figure, the Galaxy will let him go
(and certainly if he will play the bulk of this coming season with them).

I didn't mean it like that. I meant if there was a chance of signing him, then Everton would come up with the money - but I don't think LA want to let him go, and to be honest I don't believe Donovan is keen on leaving LA either.

He may enjoy his time at Everton, but then so did McBride, but he didn't last long either.

Shame, as Donovan like Heitinga would not regret the chance to stay at Everton permanently.
