Sir Landon Of Donovan

Problem is, he goes back over the pond no doubt other clubs could well step in to sign him up and we are out in the cold. I think MOyes comment was basically saying we do not have the dosh.

Maybe ill keep an eye out maybe for more of the ball stuff, certainly our counter game hasnt improved with Landons addition the goal against a pretty woefull second string Sunderland defence is my only recolection but ill give him the beniefit of the doubt on wheather its his effectivenss or the teams under utilastaion.

Again as i said in all my posts i want someone who can take it to the by line, deliver, beat man and come in side all done with pace i know Donavan can do some but not all which is the type of player i think we need.

I really hope he makes a fool out me and counters and breaks all over the show against Man U - whatever hes done in the past the ????????? has always been can he be the "world class talent" he shows and many of our American posters beleive him to be in Europe and the PL.

Is he in the top ten of players in his position in the prem?

If I thought about it.....I'd say yes.

Ashley Young
Joe Cole
Malouda
Lennon
Wright Philips
Milner
N'Zogbia?
Valencia?
Donovan?
Bentley?
Nani?
Reira?

He's easily in there with the ones with a question mark defo for me.

I think one guy was saying Landon likes being comfortable. Is why he's stayed at LA and didn't really work in Germany. I think we've made him feel comfortable, and if he wanted to push through a move it would be to us.

However, money is money...

Thats why I ranted when we signed him - a press conference to say you signed a contract but going out on loan meant the chance of us signing him if he done well were very, very slim. Some told me it was for the best, so he could include a buy out clause so he could leave? - Doesn't sound that way.

Noone is sure about the clause, but Landon pretty much said, MLS would not loan him out if he didn't sign a new contract. He didn't have much choice.

"But I don't think we'll be able to keep him when his three-month loan expires unfortunately." -Moyes

I do not think this quote tells us anything. If Moyes does have the desire to keep Donovan on a permanent basis he surely wouldn't come out and say so publicly. What kind of negotiating leverage would he have if he said "It is imperative that we keep Landon." That would just be bad business.

Conversely, if it is the case that signing Donovan is not a possibility then he loses nothing by saying that, so...

My head hurts.

This.

Along with this: If Moyes is working on signing Donovan permanently he's going to go about it in a respectful manner behind closed doors talking to the LA Galaxy and MLS, and then Donovan. Not by making statements about it to the press.

Once a deal is done we'll hear about it.

Look what ive done, there goes the green card eh! I didnt say hes a bad player i just think we need something different. His performence last night was good but so was the whole team, he is usefull to have and offers us balance. Yet he wasnt able to offer us any penetration or counter in games against Wigan, Brum, Liverpool - or teams we struggle to break down. There is very little difference in our penetration or ability to get at these spoiling teams compared to him being here and not!

Like i say he offers us another outlet but currently i think we need soemething different.

That said i wouldnt be dissapointed if we kept him as i say he offeres balance undoubhtedly - but i still think we would need another player.

If i had to choose Landon currently wouldnt be it.

I've seen Donovan play a hundred times and I think its a fair critique of Landon that his game is most naturally suited for the counter. That's part of the reason he didn't shine at Bayern where the opposition was always packing it in against them. He just played very tidy but didn't do enough to knock anyones socks off.

But even in a tighter game with his pace neutralized, Donovan can still pick out a teammate in tight traffic, make the quick combination play to open things up, and hit a heavy shot from a more central position. But this part of his game isn't going to shine through after a month with the team when he's being asked to play a very specific role.

He's clearly a good player and at the right price he'd be an astute signing, even if he isn't exactly what we need. N'Zogbia is a very good player and more suited to our needs but he'd probably cost around 12-18 million, similar to the prices Palacios and Valencia went for. Sadly, we can't afford that.

Donovan would certainly be a useful player to have around.

Moyes: "That was Landon's best game for us, but I don't think we'll be able to keep him when his three-month loan expires unfortunately."

Or is Davey just saying he will be off at the end of March (so he is fresh for the world cup) and we can't extend his loan to cover April and May.

I'm hoping we would be in for him in the summer, if we blew our whole summers cash on him I don't think I would be complaining. If we spent 11m on Billy, I would go up to that much (if we get that much) on Donavon. Come on Davey march Bill down to the bank, sell his ass, do whatever it takes

Not trying to pick a fight but I think maybe you've convinced yourself of something despite the evidence to the contrary. He blew by Insua and delivered a dangerous cross to the back post against Liverpool for example.
