Sir Landon Of Donovan

if we make him feel wanted every time he pulls on the shirt then that could be a big factor in any decision he makes.

i'd imagine we will be in the same pos with him as milan where with beckham. he could say that he will be in better form for the world cup by playing in the prem though.

Somebody print up a T-shirt with, 'I'm a blue scouser now!' printed across the front Grandoldteam Logo on the back and hand them to Johnny and Landon at the front of the lower gladys when they have their last warm up before they go into the tunnel. Show them how much we love them... It just needs to be done.

Anyway sign him up, we cannot let him go back, sorry american cousins but he's far too good to spend the rest of his career over there.

One last thought on the "counter" discussion--

Just take a look at the build-up to the play where LD won the penalty in the box--where he starts, where he finishes....

'Nuff said....

He is a fuc*ing quality player. And gives our midfield the balance it's craved for the past 20 years...

He's worth 10m+ to us at the moment.

I hope we can somhow sign him..

USA,USA,USA,USA,USA,USA!!!

Quite and end-to-end performance from Landon last night. Very exiting stuff. If Landon's got that "fixed buyout" he'll be back at Everton in the summer. And if not, someone will make an offer MLS can't refuse.

MLS might be emotionally attached to Donovan, but they will cave in the face of a big offer. They will decide that Landon's marketing power could be more than replaced by a big-name older foreigner who can be paid a big salary but had on a free (e.g. Ronaldinio/DelPiero/Veron/Shevchenko...).

The replacement doesn't need to help the team win like Donovan would as long as they have a big name and some fancy tricks.

Look what ive done, there goes the green card eh! I didnt say hes a bad player i just think we need something different. His performence last night was good but so was the whole team, he is usefull to have and offers us balance. Yet he wasnt able to offer us any penetration or counter in games against Wigan, Brum, Liverpool - or teams we struggle to break down. There is very little difference in our penetration or ability to get at these spoiling teams compared to him being here and not!

Like i say he offers us another outlet but currently i think we need soemething different.

That said i wouldnt be dissapointed if we kept him as i say he offeres balance undoubhtedly - but i still think we would need another player.

If i had to choose Landon currently wouldnt be it.

Don't think anybody begrudges you holding the view that the side needs something different. What I think people have objected to and have pretty thoroughly discredited is the reason you offer for wanting something different. It's clear to anybody who's followed his career that the break is one of his strengths (just look at the thread wiht the youtube of all his goals). In addition, at least three or four posters have noted that he in fact has broken away a bunch of times in each match, but none were ever exploited.

EDIT: BTW, some great lines from the times online matchtracker:

Couple of great lines from the matchtracker at the timesonline:

Chelsea kick off and are immediately on the back foot - Terry has to defend against incursions from Cahill and then Donovan within thirty seconds of kick off. Donovan is just tormenting Cole tonight.

50'
I think this is the closest I have ever come to feeling sympathy for Ashley Cole - Donovan dispossesses him yet again and sends in a swirling cross. Terry slips as he backpedals, yet somehow manages to head the ball clear from the floor. Impressive."

And in the summary:

"Saha and Donovan were the undoubted heroes of the game, with the American tormenting the Chelsea left flank time and time again"

All very well saying you would not choose Donovan but in a way a typical unthinking sentence. Just critcal instead of offering alternatives. It is no good knocking something down without ideas of rebuilding.

Donovan gave Cole a torrid time tonite its one of the few times ive seen Ashley Cole be made look just basic , so yes i wud like to see Donovan make a permanent move to Everton he gives us a better outlet on the right hand side........

Maybe ill keep an eye out maybe for more of the ball stuff, certainly our counter game hasnt improved with Landons addition the goal against a pretty woefull second string Sunderland defence is my only recolection but ill give him the beniefit of the doubt on wheather its his effectivenss or the teams under utilastaion.

Again as i said in all my posts i want someone who can take it to the by line, deliver, beat man and come in side all done with pace i know Donavan can do some but not all which is the type of player i think we need.

I really hope he makes a fool out me and counters and breaks all over the show against Man U - whatever hes done in the past the ????????? has always been can he be the "world class talent" he shows and many of our American posters beleive him to be in Europe and the PL.

Is he in the top ten of players in his position in the prem?

Merely pointing out you need to suggest altrnatives instead of just saying that one wno't do.(y)

I was waiting for someone to ask to be honest! I have a few! Like i say i actually think we need two wingers - if one of them was Landon i wouldnt be dissapointed but if its one i would go after someone else for the reasons i said!

Left out the best part: Cole got so frustrated with Donovan he kicked him, but only managed to injure himself.
