And add me to the list of Yanks that hope Everton can find a way to keep him. And one of the things about Landon is, he likes to be somewhere he is comfortable. So if he already knows he likes the team and fits in and is wanted, I suspect if you can afford the buyout you'll get him, even if other options come in.

Hello Gents, I am sorry about the long winded post but I am new to these boards and have been following the Donovan transfer. I am a LA native and a Galaxy STH/supporter. I've watched both games that Donovan has started (on very bad streams) and I have been impressed with Donovan's performance but I have been more impressed with Everton's scrappy, gritty, fighting performance against two top flight teams. I am hooked and I hope you will all welcome me to the Toffees supporter family. Lastly, I have a good friend and football mate here in LA who was born and raised in Liverpool and is an ardent Liverpool supporter. Naturally, I am going to be an Everton supporter and give him plenty of [Poor language removed], as we yanks say.
As for us Galaxy fans on this side of the Atlantic, we all support Donovan 100 percent and desperately want him back but realize that he has more than paid his dues and deserves his shot at the big show. Seriously, a few months ago he was still under contract for $900,000/yr. It is true that the MLS signed him to a new contract for $2.25 million/yr through 2014 but we are very nervous about losing him despite the new contract. If we are going to lose him, I hope it is Everton because Moyes took a chance on him despite all the "bullocks". The MLS will probably demand at least $15 million as a transfer fee. The record MLS transfer fee was $10 million for Jozy Altidore and I think that Donovan is clearly worth more than Altidore. In the two games for Everton, Donovan has shown glimpses of his dangerous offensive potential. I assure you that this will increase as he meshes with the team. He has alot of pace, a very good touch and decent field vision. In the last few years, he has worked harder to pump up the defensive aspect of his game. The knock against him was that he sometime disappeared in games and didn't enforce his will on the game. I honestly think that has more to do with the talentless cast that has been assembled around him. Beckham went a long way to changing that and they were often a lethal duo on our pitch. Honestly, the Galaxy's front line is pathetic and it was amazing that we advanced to the cup this year with our sleep inducing striker duo. On a very, very good day, MAYBE the Galaxy beats a healthy, in form Everton squad. Everton clearly has quality players. That guy, Fellaini, had a monster game today. He should just build a Chateau in the middle of the pitch because he owned it today! Because of this quality, I think Donovan is going to do real good things for you guys. With your current and returning injured players, Everton will have a deadly midfield. I am looking forward to my Saturday morning Everton games.

As a Real fan, Salt Lake that is, I'm hoping that the Toffee's can find a way to keep him around longer than 10 weeks. Not that I'm looking to get him out of the MLS but everyone here knows he belongs in Spain, Italy or England. From what I've heard he really hasn't had a legit chance in Europe until he joined Everton. It really helps to have someone who believes in your talent and is willing to give you time on the pitch.
I'm not sure how all this will play out but with the MLS and it's players having a dispute over a new collective bargaining agreement, the players might be locked out by MLS starting on Feb 1st. If that happens who knows how long it will last but it might give Everton the chance to extend Sir Landon of Donovan for the rest of the season.
This is just my opinion but if Sir Landon of Donovan keeps playing well for Everton and he wants to join the EPL, I have no doubt he would give Everton every chance to sign him. I don't think he'd go for the highest bidder, but as long as Everton is close to what others are offering he'd stick with the "sure" thing. Not to defend Donovan (nor would it matter), yet reviewing facts and well reasoned analysis suggests legitimate distinctions may exist between his newly signed MLS contract (a specific option to move on after a loan period exists), Beckham's MLS contract, and the latter's actions and overall commitment. Additionally, more than a few media sources appear to have inaccurately portrayed Donovan's specific criticism of Beckham (not questioning the AC Milan loan itself as much as focusing on Beckham's match day and practice efforts while with Los Angeles, blowing off game appearances while injured, etc.).
Donovan screwed up BIG time in conveying his views via a media source versus man-to-man. Later, he acknowledged as much. Left unsaid were any apologies for comments on Beckham's purported tight fisted ways among his teammates (note: some MLS players earn about $50-75K). Being a board newby, I can't post an article link yet quality insight exists in the following quotes. With some effort, you can read the actual LA Times article (no WWW is required, just type in " articles . latimes . com / 2009 / jul/09/sports/sp-jones-beckham9 " and remove the spaces to read the article).
" 'I'm not going to apologize for the way I felt', he told The Times. 'What I feel badly about is that I should have been a man and told David how I felt as opposed to telling a reporter.'
What Donovan wants is to clear the air about why Beckham essentially mailed it in during the latter half of the 2008 MLS season in which the Galaxy finished second to last.
'Something happened at some point last year where a switch went off, and that's what I want to talk to him about, and we'll figure that out man to man.' "
Fortunately, Donovan and Beckham discussed differences of perspective that may have existed, performed well together in 2009, and moved on to their club's and their mutual benefit. Time will tell whether Donovan continues to contribute with Everton, and whether he executes his contract option to move on or returns to LA.

I too am a new fan from the States and have been really impressed with Everton's play of late (Especially the defensive intensity!). I am a huge Landon Donovan Fan and its gratifying to see he's geeting some time on the pitch. His time in the EPL will certainly serve us well come this summer.
I, like many of my fellow American fans here, would very much like to see Donovan consider staying. He has given the MSL a fair shake and I think its time for hime to once and for all prove that he belongs on the world stage (and there aint one much bigger that the EPL).
Lastly, I want to say that today's match against Manchester City was a joy to behold....In this novices eyes, Everton totally dominated. Fellaini was a monster on the pitch and I must have replayed that pirroutte a hundred times today!

As a note of caution, I would be extremely hesitant to believe much of what Grahame Jones writes for the LA times. He is not well liked by the Galaxy fan base and seems to have some axe to grind with the Galaxy and the MLS. There are far, far better reporters of the american soccer scene and the particulars of the LA Galaxy.
The bottom line is that when a team is losing there tends to be a lot of finger pointing and winning usually fixes everything. Until this past year, the Galaxy were a HORRIBLE MLS team for the last few years. There are many reasons for that but even a mildly motivated Beckham clearly made the Galaxy better and he definitely was a large part of the reason why we went to the cup this past year. On the pitch, Beckham and Donovan always seemed to play well together. LA is a town full of egos and stars. The off the pitch stuff always gets magnified especially when a team is losing. With the exception of the Clippers/Kings, LA expects winning teams.

With few more weeks training and couple more games, he is going to be amazing when he finally get things going, I believe we haven't seen the best from him.
