Sir Landon Of Donovan

We can't compare PL stats because Landon has only played a dozen games here but we can compare international and Landon has a better record. More goals, more assists, faster and more versatile. I take Landon over Rooney.

Robbie Keane has a better international record than Rooney. As does Crouch, in terms of goals per game. There's a reason only one of them is the star player at one of the top 5 clubs in the world.

There's opinions and then there's just plain wrongness.

You sir, are ejaculating streams of the latter onto my computer monitor. Please stop.

TBF a large number of the opposition America plays aren't particularly great on the world stage, the major exception being Mexico.

I think that when you take up these silly arguments, each side heads to the extreme, further than they want to.

He's not better than Rooney, but discounting his international resume by saying he plays in CONCACAF ignores all the goals he's scored in the WC, Confederations Cup, and against UEFA competition. It's not as if Rooney has shown up on the scorecard against UEFA's elite.

The opponents are in the links. Compare Andorra and El Salvador, Switzerland and Costa Rica, Croatia and Mexico and Argentina and Brazil.

I don't see much difference in quality.

if Rooney was all about goals nobody would pay what united paid for him,,, what you get from Rooney is a world class all round football player who would walk into any team in the world...... when landon can do that come back and talk to me .

Ehh, I said he wasn't better than Rooney. Follow the conversation please.

"My dad is bigger than your dad and can fight him" blah blah..Jesus, it's like being back in the playground again. Who cares if Rooney has scored more Champions League than that guy..or if Landon has scored more goals with his fod than that other guy in a World Cup qualifier in Mexico. Landon is currently an Everton player, one who is helping raise the profile of the team both on and off the field. He's not claiming like some sort of Brett the Hitman Hart, to be the "Best there was, the best there is and the best that ever will be" - If he did that, then he'd be laughed out of town. One of the many things I enjoy about the guy isn't just his ability to use both feet, find passes and have the work rate of a tennis player, but he keeps it modest. He knows how good he is and how good he isn't. He's not come to us demanding huge wage structures and personal demands to get him. He knows he's here to a job and then go home, but "if you'd like me to stay, have a word with my bosses."

It's easy to compare one player with another. But it's also unfair. I had this argument with a kopite who was trying to goad me into an argument by giggling to me that Landon hasn't set the world on fire with any goals on his return. Explaining to him, that he isn't here to score goals, just add that bit of creativity and balance in the midfield, went right over his head. But tell him that Landon has been pivotal in addition of goals this season and that too confuses them.

While he's here we should be grateful that he is putting in a shift that many around him are unwilling to do. He may not have his name in lights at the end of the game, but the statistical minded amongst us will see his name in the books as the provider of passes that make the goals. He's not here to save us single handily ..he's here to help us win by being part of a team.

Stupid Argument. Rooney is better because he has proven year over year in one of the toughest leagues in the world.

Landon has not proven himself, which has been his choice. We really will never know how good Landon could have been.

i appologise, i see where you stated rooney was better but you are basing your argument purely on goals scored.

The only argument I made is that Donovan didn't acquire his international resume based on CONCACAF competition.

The comparison arguments are just dumb.

i agree, you cant compare rooney to landon,, two totally different types of player.

Wow...this argument has gone haywire.

At the end of the day LD has made us better. He IMHO has been our best player since his arrival. He has proven that he can make a difference at age 29 for a mid table side in the Premier League.

He is the best American ever. Wayne Rooney is better. I think he prefers being the big fish in a little pond. Let's all play nice now.
