Sir Landon Of Donovan

Maybe I haven't seen enough of him. The games I've seen he's got one skill...pace. The talent around him make him look better. Just my opinion.

I understand what you are trying to say, but if you think he's been one of our better players, then don't say we won't miss him when he's gone...

The reason we wont miss him is basically very simple,, were gash with him and were gash without him...end of.

Donovan has been ace - again. Looks like he's going to play every minute of every game this time, showing his value to the team. Last time Moyes could afford not to play him towards the end as he had more options. He'll be missed but hopefully someone will come in during the window to fill the void when he's gone.

dont know y people slate him hes done nothink but lift us in both stints but he should defo want to better himself over couple of seasons in pl and not play it safe it that s hit league

He is. Which is why he's laying the ground work for a move next year, with only 1 year left on contract. It's up to Everton to come get him, or he's going somewhere else.

I'm not going to respond to the eternal "he should be in Europe" arguments in this thread because they are exhausting and pointless. According to stats and national team performances, he is the best American of all-time. Period. Plus, he still has years to play.

But as for this quote above, please check your facts. He has provided 4 assists in our last 6 goals, and you could say that was 5 if you include the necessary cross into Fellaini for Cahill's goal.

5 out of 6 goals created by LD in 3.5 weeks actually. He is driving our offense right now, no matter what you say. I don't see anyone else doing what he is doing. Do you?

I'm disappointed that there are folks not thanking him for his service here, because if it wasn't for him and his 5 assists, think about where we'd be right now. Who knows what would have happened, but you can't argue with the existing stats.

You don't have to think he's a world beater, but at least say thank you instead of dissing the guy.

Sheez.

Here's some interesting stats to back that up even more.

As these statistics show, Donovan’s presence has clearly been felt, as he has augmented several facets of the Toffees’ game, pretty much consistently stretching the team average. A leading passer, he is one of only eight players who currently pass at over 80% in an Everton jersey....

Donovan is also Everton’s most accurate pass finder in the final third of the field, an area where he actually raises his overall passing accuracy to 83% and crushes the team average of 65%....

With Leighton Baines – the Premier League’s most persistent crosser, peppering the box from the left – since Donovan’s arrival, the American has provided a fresh crossing alternative from the right. His 36% accuracy is 5% better than any other player who has sent in at least 10 deliveries, and the Toffees should be benefiting now that more persistent production is arriving from both wings....

With the ball he has so far maintained possession far better than all offensive players. Dispossessed only twice in four league games so far, when compared to others in his position – Leon Osman (38), Seamus Coleman (26) Royston Drenthe (21), all approaching, if not over twice a game – his return so far is exemplary....

The fact he has fashioned a chance every 33 minutes trumps all other Everton ratios and the Toffees’ goal-shy strikers would do well to feed off his greater production while it is in supply....

But yeah, we won't miss him at all when he's gone.

People who think he's just average or don't think we'll miss him are talking out of their ass pure and simple and frankly, I'd question their ability to watch a football match and understand what's happening.

Donovan has been a revelation for us both times he's been with us and there's a reason why the MAJORITY of Evertonians are clamoring for his permanent signature.

if you read through the whole thread, instead of picking the bits you choose to attack with, you will realise that I have not dissed him once, all I stated originally was the fact that I didnt understand all of the hype and excitement over a six week signing who , in my opinion, is an above average premier league player,,,,, is that being disrespectful ???? some people need to get a grip and start being honest with yourselves.

Please read the tonality of your posts. Including the parts that I bolded in this one.

Donovan has been a good player in a poor league for years, he has done nothing of note in this country....yet. How many other teams fans do you hear saying ffs were playing everton next week, ****e team but that Donovan is a cracking player ??? none i'll bet you.

I'm tired of this statement. He has had two loan periods with us where he has looked downright fantastic and like he would have ZERO problem playing in the EPL (which is why Americans pine for him so much to do so).

Also, he has played in 3 World Cup Qualifying campaigns, 3 World Cups and 1 Confederations Cup and multiple games against Mexico where he has literally put the national team on his back (minus the '06 Cup).

If you can't extrapolate from that? I give up. It's the same tired, "but he plays in MLS" commentary that doesn't recognize stats or national team feats or his play with our team.

And as for your last statment - have you read ANY of the media from the last month? Here, let me give you an example from James Tyler at ESPN posted today that is highly representative of what's been written:

Everton's 2-1, come-from-behind win was great entertainment, not least because the on-loan Landon Donovan artfully supplied Denis Stracqualursi and Marouane Fellaini for both Toffees goals, either.

Donovan's crossing was prodigious -- how I wish he were on loan across Stanley Park instead -- and catalyzed his adopted team's superb comeback against a typically obdurate Fulham side that seized the lead when John Heitinga handled in the box and Danny Murphy serenely dispatched the penalty. First, Landy's cut-back on the right wing gave him the room to float in a gorgeous left-footed cross for the on-loan Argentine monster to power home his first goal in English football (he cried all the way through his goal celebration). In the 73rd minute, Donovan's set-piece free kick found the Belgian for a towering header over goalie David Stockdale to seal the victory.

Though Clint Dempsey displayed a mere fraction of his counterpart's creativity, his exploits across a long and storied EPL career cannot be overlooked, much like Tim Howard's tenure between the posts at Everton and Landon's press-grabbing performances in two brief loan cameos.

Based on the calendar, the fifth-round tie at home to Sheffield Wednesday or Blackpool will be one of Donovan's last games before returning to the LA Galaxy on Feb. 25. Considering how much more threatening Everton looks with Donovan supplying such quality from the wing, I'd suggest that Toffees fans enjoy him while they can.

Donovan is a great player for us and endless speculation/opinion as to which other teams he would get in is completely irrelevant bull shoite.

He drives our team forward, he alternates between winger and second forward and puts a shift in defensively. Apart from against Fullham he has not reached his potential in this second visit with us yet he is still one of our best players ever time he puts on the shirt. As other people have linked the stats on his influence over our game are there for all to see.

If you combined the best elements of Coleman and Bily then the end product would be Donovan.

He can lay all the groundwork he wants but it's too late now to give him a full contract, we've gone too far backwards since his first loan unless we somehow pull an elephant out of our wagon wheel in the next 24 hours and show marked improvement over the next couple months. HMS Everton has sailed IMHO...it's all just could'a, should'a would'a now.

You should have bolded the "is and above average premier league player" part too...beyond Baines, Jags, and maybe Felli and Howard...possibly Drenthe...how many do we really have? Cahill in his prime for sure, but not now. Saha...a couple of years ago maybe. Beyond that, I don't see much that is "above average" in our side.

Ignoring LD for a minute, wow, those stats for the team are kinda depressing...65%? Yikes.

your conveniantly changing his position to suit your argument... NANI, ASHLEY YOUNG, VALENCIA, MILNER. ADAM JOHNSON, OXLADE CHAMBERLAIN, ROSITSKY, AARON LENNON, SCOTT PARKER AND KUYT..........there's 10 players i would take ahead of him off the top of my head,,,, could be more if I took the time to think about it.
Some great players there. Now how many of them have 50 assists and 50 goals for their country? How many have 5 goals in the World Cup finals?

Do you think that it might be a possibility that you have blinders on and not all of us?

The reason that he never left the US is because he loves LA and he wanted to help build the league in his own country. BTW a league that could possibly be the best in the world in the future he would have helped lay the foundation with his humility.

The NFL is the best business run sport in the world. American businessmen have a little bit of experience running leagues. Soccer all over the world is in immense debt. That is a bad business plan.

I used to think he was average but then I opedned my eyes and saw how much he brings to the team. He is a cracking player and it is a shame he won't be able to stay.
