Sir Landon Of Donovan

Do they not have a mid season break each year, what with confed cup etc as well??

Not really -- until recently, the vast majority of teams did not played their matches at facilities they did not control where they were secondary tenants to an American football side. For scheduling reasons, they couldn't afford a mid-season break, because they were going to lose available match days at the end of the season.

Those days are blessedly gone (almost -- DAMN YOU, Kraft!!!)... the 2 remaining teams (Seattle and New England) ground-sharing with an American football side are not bleeding money on rent since in both cases there's common ownership of the grounds, American football team, and soccer team.

Hopefully, the U.S. schedule will gradually align with something like the Scandanavian leagues, with a long winter break, and for much the same reasons. It's too damned cold, windy, and snowy to play anything resembling soccer in January and February in the northern U.S. and Canada.

This is the first time MLS has even taken a break for the world cup. MLS also doesn't break for international dates. It's worse during world cup qualification because considerably more players are missing to play for other countries that didn't qualify (e.g. Jamaica, El Salvador, Canada, Trinidad, Guatemala, Costa Rica....)

Since 8 of 16 teams make the MLS playoffs, it's somewhat tolerable. You may drop some points while key players are on international duty, but you still can win the title if you make the top 8. If you can't make the top 8, you just plain don't deserve it. But it's still very frustrating for the real fans to see real matches contested by backups. But the bottom line is that the casual fan is still important and they come out on weekends more than on weeknights and playing through the international dates lets them have more weekend games. Money trumps the integrity of the competition.

Not that many here care but Sir Landon's MLS team is still undefeated. 8-0-2. He has 1 goal with 9 assists in 9 appearances. And he hasa sweet ass tan still. :)

Same here mate, same here :(

oh, and Donovan was looking great in the 2nd half of the match verse Turkey today... two assists... solid.

I would much prefer to gush over him in an everton shirt.
Seriously though,he's one hell of a player and it's obvious the time spent at everton has improved his game.
What time is this game against australia kicking off ?
