Sir Landon Of Donovan

LANDON DONOVAN is desperate to recreate his “unbelievable” Everton experience next year – but told Evertonians his body simply wouldn’t allow him to repeat last season’s loan spell this January.

Donovan reluctantly told David Moyes before Christmas that he would not be able to return on loan again this season.

But the USA international insists that doesn’t mean he has turned his back on the Blues for good.

“I don’t know what the proper analogy is, but if you went to Disneyland when you were five years old, you’re always going to want to go back,” he declared. “I don’t know in what capacity it will be, but I really, really hope that the offer still stands to go back next year and that also weighed into this decision.

“I thought to myself a lot, ‘If you say no, then what’s going to happen next year? Are they going to let you back?’ That was hard, because I don’t want to close that door, I always want the opportunity (to go back). If I don’t have the opportunity ... I mean I’m an Evertonian for life now.”

Donovan made 13 appearances at the start of last year, a spell that included victories over Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea – and David Moyes investigated the possibility of repeating the move.

But the 28-year-old admitted he turned down Everton’s approach reluctantly.

I still heart the guy, and want him back here :(

He tweets like he's actually playing for Everton. I wonder if any of that rubs Galaxy fans the wrong way?

From what I read on Galaxy boards - no (there's that 1% that still exists, but the VAST majority do not mind). They genuinely wouldn't mind if he succeeded elsewhere since he has been in MLS for so long and been successful (aka "he's toiled in the trenches and deserves it").

Definitely true RT @javdlv: @landondonovan I'm sure you needed a rest but I'm also sure you wish you were on the pitch today for Everton

Well he could have played if he didn't feel the need to have a 2/3 month long rest!

He rarely tweets about the LA Galaxy but regularly talks about Everton like he's still on the team. Needs to move on.

What a strange way to react to a player showing real fan like affection for our club, I sincerely hope he doesn't move on and we get him back here next January.

Well, we are all entitled to our opinions. Personally I think it's disrespectful to his LA Galaxy teammates, coaches and fans for him to talk like he's still playing for Everton. Nothing wrong with wishing Everton luck, but this "we" business... Galaxy pays your salary, man. But then,... who am I talking about here? The guy who served his ex divorce papers a few days before her first Christmas after losing her dad. That's how he treats his wife, guess I shouldn't be surprised how he treats his Galaxy fans.

Whatever. I won't be making anymore comments about Donovan on this board, not unless he gets a transfer or a loan and becomes an actual member of this team. As far as I'm concerned this thread can be locked until then, what is there to talk about concerning this person?

He brought some well needed spark to our club, played well, was welcomed by the fans, and helped us out. This thread is testament to that.

I'm sorry if you don't like the way Landon conducts his private life.

I think he loved being part of a great football club, and doing well, especially after it didn't work out for him in Germany, so will always want to show us love. I have no problems with that.
