A friend from down that way brought my mum a bottle up.

It’s got a unique, but not unpleasant taste.

Had some Kavalan, a Taiwanese malt yesterday. Lovely and sweet, finished in port pipes I think. Reminded me Glenrothes founders reserve a bit. Would recommend.

Watched the Blues win early this morning (530am local time), made breakfast with the fam, spent the morning cleaning up the garden and reffed two youth matches this afternoon.

Now: Laphroaig 10 year old. Life is good.

It's my brother-in-law's birthday next Saturday and I know he likes peaty Scotch. However, I know almost nothing about whisky.

Pick anything that comes from Islay, bar Bunnahabhain. Laphroaig if you're on a budget, Lagavulin is expensive but bound to be appreciated. But Islay is the key.

Been enjoying a fair amount of Macallan at the moment... got to say the 12 year double cask is really good... thoughts on Macallan anyone? Big differences between the 12, 15 and 18?

Macallan is a pretty good Speyside whisky, I actually had a12 year old out in Japan last week , long story. For me the 18 year old is a superb whisky, though maybe influenced by frequent mentions in US tv series like Suits , but everybody is different and you just might prefer a 15 .
As an aside , the “new” Macallan distillery is well worth a visit as it’s so different from the traditional distilleries, a great visitor experience.
