Single malts

Look lads, me and Bungle are trying to give up the ale, so this thread really isn't helping......can you not just consider the plight of your fellow posters.......thanks.......pete

CBA going back over this fine thread lads, but just noticed i find how mellow a Scotch is, compared to the extra goose bumps and head shake a good Irish will do.

Have to say, prefer a Scotch Whisky. Ours is even spelt differently FFS!!!

Hahahaaa got an email from Balvenie on Monday saying I'd won a competition on their website but it didn't say what I'd won. Well it was waiting for me when I got home tonight. Was expecting maybe a bottle of Double Wood 12 or maybe Caribbean Cask 14 if I was lucky. Well, it turned out to be this: http://www.masterofmalt.com/whiskies/balvenie/balvenie-tun-1401-batch-8-whisky/

Happy ****ing days!!!!!!!!

I mostly prefer the Islay malts.

Lagavulin was a favorite until the price exploded. Some time between 2000 and my wedding in '04 it nearly doubled from about $53 to $95 a bottle.

Laphroaig - 15 was brilliant. Had a great flavor but was still affordable. Have tried and loved the 18 and 21, the 10 just seems to fall flat for me. Joined the "Friends of Laphroaig", have a nice, lifetime lease on a square foot of Islay... so if you ever visit, stick a little EFC flag in the bog for me.

Ardbeg is another I like that walks the line between flavor and affordability. Replaced the expensive Lagavulin as the "secret stock" for my best friends at the wedding, now it's a tradition when other friends get married... a nice way to warm up cold feet.

From Islay I've also had and enjoyed Bowmore 18 (a gift), Caol Ila, Bunnahabhain. I've tried various Glens and others, but don't like them as much.

And I really enjoy Talisker. It's another that has some of the traits I like and sits along the flavor vs price quality line so it's a regular go-to with Lagavulin being pricier and the seeming (Stateside) disappearance of Laphroaig 15.

That Caribbean Cask you mention earlier in your post is sublime. My mum went to a tasting yesterday, currently awaiting updates.
