When they realised what they had, which was a mirror to society and to comment on consumerism and the american dream, they wrote seasons of acerbic humorous commentary that still lives and breathes it's relevance today. Yes it's gone wildly off the rails, but the fury and the feeling is a well that eventually runs dry. Few shows have reached across generations and entertained as well and for as long as 'The Simpsons'.

Aye, I very rarely touch the newer stuff, and by that I mean anything post season probably eleven or twelve. If I see an old episode however, it's straight on.
