WINNING FEELING

I've accepted that nothing good happens to Everton anymore.

I'm just glad I was there in '95, even though I don't remember it very well.

I feel like that sometimes.

Like last year when we went out to Arsenal then City went out the next day leaving the cup wide open for Arsenal. Stuff like that never happens for us. We get no luck in cup competitions at all.

Except for that time we drew Wigan at home, piss easy that was.

For me Trophies are what football is all about, however the financial system doesn't support that. It should be that the winners of the FA Cup, Europa League and League cup get bucket loads of cash. But they don't, you only get mega bucks from the Premier league and Champions League, so that is what everyone prioritises.

Which is a shame because in years to come when people walk around our ground on the Goodison Tour they are not going to see lots of Trophies and generally no one remembers where you finish, unless you finish top or get relegated.

I am not saying I wouldn't want to see us in the Champions League, but I would rather we won a Cup and finished in the bottom half than finish 4th.

Look at the teams the RS have beaten in finals in recent history - Cardiff, Birmingham, West Ham, Alaves.

We get Chelsea in 2009 at the peak of their powers with our 3 best players missing (Jags, Arteta and Yakubu)
I honestly think we could have won if we started Jacobson. He was boss.

It's very important but it's also something I realize is quite difficult to do. We've won the league almost twice as many times as the FA Cup and winning the league is hardly a walk in the park. Cup wins also don't mean as much to the long-term health of the club as CL football (sad but true). CL quality players want CL football not a domestic Cup win from a few years back.

That said, since what I want is completely meaningless in terms of what ends up happening I'll just take whatever happens. If we got CL football from the league I don't really give a toss about comparing that feeling to a Cup win to determine which is better or whatever. Utterly pointless.

If RM got us into the CL but didn't win a domestic Cup I'd consider that a massive achievement and be over the moon.

If RM won us a Cup but didn't get the CL I'd consider that a massive achievement and be over the moon.

Why not both? That's my answer from now on. Do both. FFS with the Europa now you just need to win that. Easy. Both!

As someone who was lucky enough to be there when Colin Harvey scored the goal to win the league in 1970. Then went home and away through the 80's, and saw us nearly get relegated twice in the 90's! Yup Silverware is important and believe me great when it happens! But at the end of the day European stuff aside there are only three trophies that can be won every year, and unfortunately these days at least 7 or 8 teams in a better financial position to be going after those three trophies! However on the evidence of what I saw last season Everton under RM are capable of competing with those 7 or 8 on a much more regular basis going forward than they have been for may be 25 years, and thereafter well you never know - it may well happen again!

If the transfer window goes well and we get our targets I think we'll win something next year.

Plus "Winning isn't everything; it's the only thing"

I'm pretty set that if we don't win a trophy this coming season then I will change clubs again. Been frustrated with the last 5 years since I decided to start supporting an up and coming team like Everton rather than be a glory hunter like the fans of all the other EPL teams I used to support but I can't have another May without a victory parade to watch.
