Silly Season January 2014

There is some fear on here, somewhat justified based on past experiences, however I would urge people to take a couple of things into account.
1) Jelavic has not been an essential part of our squad this season. In fact it's hard to think of one game that he has turned for us, (the game he gets two goals in, we still win without those goals). Any striker we get in, is a bonus. I do however accept, a needed bonus given potential fatigue in Lukaku.

2) So far, Martinez has really not let us down on anything. Think back to deadline day. We lost two players, but we brought in 3 players at short notice.

3) I do think people are judging us on what happened with Moyes. Regarding incoming signings, Moyes/Kenwright was a terrible combination, you had a tight conservative manager, alongside a chairman who didn't have a lot of money. This led to us, at times, being unprepared in seasons, with Moyes cutting off his nose to spite his face. I don't see Martinez doing this.
I think he has shown, even if he doesn't get the perfect player in, he will still spend accordingly. His past record shows, he has brought 7 players in, for not huge sums of money, in a combined time of 3/4 days.
4) Why would he come and blurt all this out? It just makes us seem panicked, and adds to the cost of players. It is also not how he does business. As someone pointed out, two days ago, he was ruling out signing Aidan Mcgeady, today he had signed him. I am sure Martinez will move decisively when the time is right.
I have to say, after years of Moyes and Kenwright, messing up most transfer windows, I am quite calm. Martinez has got good money for our players, and seems happy to spend it. I expect us to sign a striker, and (Kenwyne Jones aside) I am pleased with the quality we are linked with.

Said before but he's hardly an attention seeking itk, hardly ever posts...which makes it weirder that he is a gold forum supporter, hmmm,....
