...I think this is a fair point. I suppose the concern is the amount of game time Rooney will get (form, injuries, suspensions, fatigue etc). The other factor is what happens to Ross Barkley. I can't really think of anybody coming through to sit in that role, perhaps with the exception of Dowell who doesn't really look to be on Koeman's radar.

Dowell yes. Also Klaassen has been playing there for Ajax. And I think Sandro can play there on the evidence seen so far.

Yeah, I agree. But in the absence of Rooney he could easily be pushed up into that forward position given the very good players we have further back who can also lend a hand.

To me, Klaassen is a weird signing.

I actually thought he played some lovely weighted through balls last year, the kind of thing I imagine you would want to see from Dowell (although Dowell is probably better on dead balls, given that I've never seen Davies take one).

I just think 'work rate' with Davies. Every team must have one. No shame in that.
