Who have we been wrong about then?

It's not a case of being wrong. It's a case of writing them off and saying it enough that it becomes so

Outside of Barkley, none of our youth prospects in the past 5 years or so have received any sustained support from the fan base at all. How are they ever going to suceed if we just write them off like that?

It'd be harder for a manager to ignore them if fans were clamouring for them to get their chance

Anyway, good on Shane for getting a goal. Blackburn are doing well at the moment and I think it would be vindication for Duffy if they got promoted and he then did well at the top level and possibly became a starter for Ireland

Some people on here will never give him his due though
When the boy has earned it Michael, I'm sure people will be happy to give him his dues.

However, he has yet to set the championship alight with his rock solid defensive displays, let alone be capable at the top level.

Let it go Mikey....

Let it go.

If a manager is being swayed by our fanbase then I worry for the future of our club, especially from this forum.

Support from fans does not give a player more of an ability to play. And when they take the field they get the full backing of Goodison.

I'm going to break this argument down:

1. It's Martinez's fault for not knowing about defending
2. It's the club's fualt for letting him go
3. It's the fans fault for not supporting him enough
4. It's Alcaraz's fault for taking his place and being an ex Wigan player

It's basically everyone else's fault he's average?

Carry on.

But most fans don't have the money, time or interest to follow both the first team and reserves/youth football. How, therefore would you expect lobbying from fans for inclusion of Duffy?

I really can't fathom why you rate this lad so much. If he returns to the prem then great for him, but his style didn't suit ours do he was moved on as was Heitinga. It happens! Doesn't mean he's a bad player.

I'm interested in what you see to qualify your rating of him. I don't think reserve football is any insight into premier league standards, and he played only 3 or 4 games in the first team didn't he?

Stones, Alcaraz, Jagielka, Distin are all better players, think Roberto got this one spot on.
