Can't believe this thread still gets oxygen to keep burning. (mainly down to one poster fanning the flames/banging the drum - fair do's, shows dogged determination)

He's a 'good honest pro' who can head long balls out of defence back over the halfway line.
He's a 'big unit' who won't be intimidated by opposition forwards at corners.

He was however, not good enough to play for Everton with our current manager. You can't 'learn' to be comfortable on the ball, and if a player still relatively young doesn't fit in it's better for all concerned to move them on.

I have no doubt Shane will have a decent career and gather a very respectable number of caps for his adopted country, but Everton are without a doubt the biggest club he will ever play for.

What a load of tosh - 1 - Was Duffy ever given a chance under RM ???? so how can you judge that analysis above??? I reiterate if Duffy is not a RM type defender then why does he choose Tony Hibbert who is useless an overlapping fullback?????
Just face facts if he had been encouraged to stay he would be starting in tonights game instead of using Dads army of leftovers in the squad!
RM inherited a good aging defence whereas at Wigan he had big problems there hence relegation for Wigan - so RM is no expert on defenses as this season has so far proved as it ages in our back four particularly the central pair !

Some bad results/performances are not proof of any one thing, that is just your opinion. You may be right about Hibbo but you also know he was kept on because of his attachment to the club, from the managers comments you´d gather its not just about what he can do on the field. And in any case he has barely used him in his time as manager. Hibbert will retire at Everton, as many fans would want him to and I´m sure Bobby knows that.

so making a decision on Hibbo is not the same as deciding what is best for the career of a young CB who wants first team fooball but who, from what I have seen of him, doesn´t suit the style Bobby will want going forward. The transfer was best for Duffy, that is for sure as he would have been nothing but what you mention a stopgap when we get screwed by injuries. Better he is getting on with his career elsewhere.

I don´t see yourself or Mikey acknowledging the qualities of his game you think would make Bobby consider him for his plan for the squad going forward.

Based on what YOU have seen, would you describe Duffy as a 'ball playing defender'?

He's not good enough at the type of football the manager aspires to, neither is Hibbert. But the occasional game from the bench is hardly holding Hibberts career back, is it?

That's why I said it was better for "all concerned" if he moved on.

Ask Brian Duffy if he's still around here, would Shane prefer to sit on his arse for 3 months to play against Lille, or get regular game time for Blackburn?

Oh, back to your original points...yes, Last pre-season, and this: Absolute Rabbit in the headlights each time he played our new "style."

Shame, when he came in those few Europa games and the odd league game 5 or so years back he looked a beast.

AGAIN, if it's hard for you to comprehend...I'm sure he will go on to have a decent career.

It is not hindsight for me I was really hoping he would get a run in the team this season in Europe etc.
I knew he was better than that paper made centre half /goalkeeper named Alcaraz who suffers with muscle fatigue - I reiterate Duffy played five games for us and did very well, and was dumped as usual by DM { He did the same with Coleman, persisting with Tony Hibbert !!!!!!} - For me we needed a ball in the air centre half - John Terry - Gary Cahill are old traditional centre halfs be honest if Duffy was here now he would be playing under the injury circumstances - Distan has been a good servant but now past it Jags is at his peak so imo it was a foolish move by RM to move him on - We have sold younger players in the past that have come to bite us in the bum - I wish Duffy all the best, and I hope he proves me right!
If RM can fetch a centre back in now like Browning/Gallaway or maybe its better than using hasbeens , and I include Tony Hibbert in that notion too - no way should he be near the EFC squad as he is not an overlapping attacking fullback in the RM ideology, but he seems to get chosen above younger players like Browning who look decent????
Duffy asked to leave to get first team football. He did not want to stay in the hope that someone would get injured, being the only way he'd get his chance.

So we think Shane should have been given a run of games based on :
1- He is a nice lad
2 - he tries hard
3 - he is very tall
4 - he doesn't get intimidated
5 - Bobby didnt give him a chance

Well based on the above I should be given a run in the team ffs
Get your facts correct dumb brain Duffy played five prem games for us on the run and was MOTM in three of those games - so he had proved himself to be a contender , and oh yes our central parings have looked great this season - how many goals have we conceded so far this season???????
