Although it would of been nice to have not sold Duffy and peronsally I think we did sell him a year too early but if we're crying over defenders weve sold dont forget we had a German world cup international on our books (Shokdran Mustafi) and Eric Dier who seems to be banging a fair few goals in for spurs.

It is not hindsight for me I was really hoping he would get a run in the team this season in Europe etc.
I knew he was better than that paper made centre half /goalkeeper named Alcaraz who suffers with muscle fatigue - I reiterate Duffy played five games for us and did very well, and was dumped as usual by DM { He did the same with Coleman, persisting with Tony Hibbert !!!!!!} - For me we needed a ball in the air centre half - John Terry - Gary Cahill are old traditional centre halfs be honest if Duffy was here now he would be playing under the injury circumstances - Distan has been a good servant but now past it Jags is at his peak so imo it was a foolish move by RM to move him on - We have sold younger players in the past that have come to bite us in the bum - I wish Duffy all the best, and I hope he proves me right!
If RM can fetch a centre back in now like Browning/Gallaway or maybe its better than using hasbeens , and I include Tony Hibbert in that notion too - no way should he be near the EFC squad as he is not an overlapping attacking fullback in the RM ideology, but he seems to get chosen above younger players like Browning who look decent????

If Alcaraz wasn't an ex Wigan player, I'm fully confident that he would not have been above Duffy in the pecking order. He's shown me nothing to suggest he deserved to be ahead of any other CB in the team

Still doesn't make sense that we'd let Shane go when Galloway isn't going to be ready for a while

Shane could have been plugged into the side whenever he was required. He shouldn't have been ahead of Stones, but defo Alcaraz and maybe even Distin at this point

Oh yeah defo.....that goes without saying.

Experienced defender who formed part of the spine of your previous team and plays the way you want, helping ease transition from one style to another, on a free transfer

Or....

Young defender well thought of but at least fourth in the pecking order who's had a handful of games for the first team, who you can cash in on and swap for a younger potentially better player and get another million quid on top.

Hmmmmmmmmmm

Regardless of what you think about the relative qualites of Alcaraz and Duffy as CBs, one was happy to be 3rd/4th choice CB at this stage of his career and the other wasn't.

Wish Duffy well but moving on was probably his best choice and imo was probably ours as well given he doesn't really fit with Martinez's "type" of defender.

Like Hibbert who gets chosen?

If Duffy was/is so good, why didn't another Prem team come in for him? Not even Burnley or Leicester took an interest which tells you something and probably highlights why successive Everton managers didn't rate him either

HONEST TO GOD LADS IF WE HADNT SOLD THIS KID WHO PLAYED ABOUT THREE TIMES IN THE PREMIER LEAGUE AND LOOKED OK IN AT LEAST A QUARTER OF HIS RESERVE GAMES WE'D BE TOP OF THE LEAGUE JOKE REALLY.
