Shane Duffy

Unfortunately for Duffy, he plays in the position we're arguably best stocked in. He's not even competing with John Stones anymore to be around the team as he's established, he's competing with Browning who Bobby seems to love. He's going to have to have a top pre season to stand a chance. Which I hope he does.

This will surely be Distin's last season and Alcaraz is out of contract at the end of the season as well, so hopefully both Duffy and Browning will step up to fill these 2 vacancies and allow us to use our funds to strengthen elsewhere!

We could have to awesome back fours at the start of 2015/2016 season. Coleman-Jagielka-Stones-Oviedo and Kenny-Duffy-Browning-Garbutt. Baines would be our new midfield star alongside McCarthy!

Rather not write players off that have only played a handful of games for us.
There may be a glaringly obvious reason he's only played a handful of games..... It's no shame on the lad.... You need to be very very special to make it in arguably one of the top 6 teams in Britain.... It don't mean he's garbage.... He's just not top drawer.

your getting desperate now dan

Thinking of someone else mate.

There's another thread about which youngster could make the breakthrough this year. Duffy wasn't on it, but he could be the closest. A full season in the Championship and international recognition will do him no harm at all.

I like him. He's a good defender, a leader, composed on the ball and a threat in the opposition penalty area. His biggest weakness is his lack of pace but that hasn't hindered Terry, Mertesacker and Skrtel too much.

He's got a few players ahead of him in the pecking order but if we change our system or start phasing Distin out then he could leapfrog Alcaraz. And over the last few seasons Jagielka has tended to have quite serious injuries, so there could be opportunities.

If Barry goes elsewhere and Roberto decides to switch to three at the back it would be great to see Jags sweeping around Stones and Duffy. Plus it would reinforce our Irish contingent. Imagine a national side featuring Coleman, Duffy, McCarthy, Gibson and McGeady.

Bizarre to do so after him having a flyer at Yeovil.

"Having a flyer" and playing decently are two different things mate and I'd say his time at Yeovil was closer to the latter. I've seen a fair bit of him and he doesn't look anything above Championship level to me. Happy to be proved wrong though!
