Shane Duffy

There's a big difference between being a good CB to being a starting CB for a Everton side challanging the top 4.

It's nice to see the young lads come thru, but even if they do everything right and are at a good standard, most will not be good enough. I feel Duffy will never be a first team starter for us. I'm sure he'll have a decent career tho...probably around the championship.

I love his positivity and the way he is clearly bonding with the other Irish lads at the Club - they can bring him on. He also is showing great respect for RM.

In the Irish squad for the friendlies, so hoping he gets some game time with Seamus outside him - Italy at Craven Cottage on Saturday and then off to the States for Costa Rica and Portugal.

If Roberto sends him out on loan again I think we can guess that he doesn't rate him and he won't have future here. He's 22, been out on loan and gained 1st team experience and Alcaraz is cack. If that doesn't get him near our 1st team then don't know what would!?

Really want him to do well, which might shock @Mikey_Fitzgerald .

Always remember those first few games he played for us when we were screwed for injuries (as normal) and him and Heitinga (who marshalled Duffy excellently it must be said) did really really well.

Then he had his injury which was terrible.

Hope he makes it with us. I'm just not 100% that he will.

I highly doubt that he's going to make it alongside someone like Jags tbh. We need another Distin, powerful lad who is also quick off the mark. Shane isn't this.

SHANE Duffy has been told by Everton boss Roberto Martinez that pre-season will be his chance to fight for a return to the first team

I think he only has a year laft on his contract. If he isn't going to play this season for us, I can see him moving on.

Ah right, didn't know that mate. As much as I'd love him to do well, I can see him playing a few pre-season games, not impressing and being loaned out to a League 1 team. Shame as he showed plenty of promise, just seems to have stalled.

Pre-season is big for him, fail and he will probably move on, succeed and we will definitely see more of him, not convinced he will do it though.

think pre-season last year sealed his fate for the season. hope he can do better this time.

I unfortunately have to agree, I don't think he will make it here. I re-watched the full Austria Vienna game last night ( I know time on my hands), he does lack a bit of pace the Vienna striker went past him far to easily in the first half, he also gave away a penalty for handling the ball because he was in the wrong position jumping for an ariel challenge, this is supposed to be the strongest part of his game. He didn't look too comfortable on the ball and misplaced some passes as well, but to be fair so did plenty of others. I watched a couple of Yeovil games last season as well, In one of the games he made a pass back to the keeper that was never gonna get their, he tried to get back but got overtaken by the forward who then slotted. Hopefully he has learnt a lot from the loan and does better this preseason, it will be a bit easier for all the young lads this year as the senior players in the squad are now familiar with the new style of play. Maybe he has progressed and can make an impact, time will tell, I think Browning is considered a better prospect at CB these days and will be given the game time next season. If Shane moves on we should get 2-3 mil for him from a lower prem or Championship team. The three senior guys + Stones and Browning should provide enough options for CB next year, can maybe see Roberto buying a younger CB 17/18/19 with the attributes he is looking for so that he can affect the lads development and mould him into the player he needs for our style of play, the lad Gomez from Charlton maybe or Lascelles from Forest. However things pan out for Shane I wish him luck weather at Everton or elsewhere.

Does it depend on it being sunny or windy or raining! lol only joking! I think Shane deserves a chance again in the first team!

Well your report is hardly promising for his future at PL level. Hopefully Roberto will sort it.
