Pienaar's gloves
Player Valuation: £35m
I desperately want him to be good, I used to go see the U21's at Haig Ave and I thought he was future captain material. Possibly too late now though, but I would love a Stones/Duffy combination in defence.

Biggest problem is like Mertsaker at Arsenal any game vs a team with pace we'd have to adjust the way we played or risk getting absolutely ripped apart on the Counter, and he has nowhere near the smarts of the Arsenal bloke yet which allows him to compensate at times for a lack of pace.
Simple fact is generally the worse a team is and the more it has to defend the better a player like Duffy will look, the weaknesses aren't exposed as much as they tend to be under pressure and the strengths are given more chance to be shown for the same reason.
He's been here a whilst and apparently a sound lad and all that, but lets not cloud the view that he is completely and utterly unsuited to both the style of play we now have adopted and the level we are competing at
A lot of successful partnerships for the top teams that I can think of have a 'ball-player' along with a 'brute defender'. The idea that the main attribute for a cb is passing ability is a road to ruin. As great as Stones dribbling and passing ability are, he has made a good few errors that have led to goals that a better defender wouldn't have made (Hopefully experience will help and he'll become close to the all-round cb). You need variety to get the right mix of attributes in your partnership because no cb is brilliant in every area that you require from your cbs.
On the bolded bit. That is a highly speculative view by yourself that you are stating as fact. Let's wait and see. Both our cbs aren't going to be passing superstars. Take a look at other top teams. The cbs are still overwhelmingly first and foremost good defenders. Their passing ability is adequate as they are generally required to be able to pass balls 10 yards or so to the cms and fullbacks. Duffy may well not make it to the CL but, again let's wait and see. There's no reason at the moment to not be at the least hopeful.
Didn't his dad post here a while back?
Didn't his dad post here a while back?
yeah, i think its in this thread somewhere.
Aye mate and from memory was a sound bloke too
His contract is up in summer 2015. We should get a fee for him now.
No, we should offer him an extension
.......its such a huge step up to the quality of international class strikers in the Prem. Glad that he has done so well and we'll soon know if he's in RMs plans for next season.
I do think duffy will have a pretty decent career though, just honestly dont see that being at a top 6 team mainly due to a lack of pace and agility more than any other factor, could become a rock in a few years at a palace/stoke type team though
As for pace etc I would not have said that Labby was a sprinter!, there is more to being a good CB than doing a 10 sec 100 metres.
