The pace was a bit too fast for Fellaini as I recall and as he played more games, he got more used to it.

However I've got to agree that with the emergence of Arteta in that central role (along with Neville) that Castillo won't get the run of games necessary to improve and therefore, to justify that type of price tag.

Too bad too but that's how it goes sometimes.

i really wanted castillo to be a success , but even with the excuse of injuries and lack of matches he hasnt really looked up to the job so far.

i would have thought an international would atleast be able to hit the ground running and not look like he is just learning how to play football.

he does make some nice challenges and has a terrific shot , but doesnt produce them often enough.

against liverpool there were many times he looked completely lost and unsure.

rodwell might not be as strong as castillo but he needs game time to improove , so i would actually pick rodwell ahead of him.

thinking about it , neville and castillo seemed arratic at times yesterday with over who should pick up who , so i would rather play just neville as a dm and perhaps use gosling instead of castillo in a more advanced midefeild role.

Personally I'd sign him if he was cheap. But we have to be dead certain on who we're spending 5million on at Everton so he wont be here next year - which is a same cos I do like him.

Like GOT said last night even though his passing was woeful he was very disiplined and we kept exceptional shape. He did show signs in the second half of great control, composure and looks like a DM that when he's gelled with the team could put his foot on the ball, be calm under pressure and lay the ball off into safety without resorting to hoofing it - I dont think he ever hoofed the ball once last night.

You've gotta ask youself though, do we need a Defensive midfielder? Yes. Do we need or can we afford an exceptional Essien-type DM? No. Do we need cover? IMO yes. Is Rodwell ready for it? Not yet. Would he ever get picked over Neville not matter how good he was...probably not anyway haha

As for the price - well a Loric Cana etc would cost you £13mill. Someone like a Joey Barton (spits) or Pascal Chinbonda costs £5-6million. Castillo has potential to be better than them and would be a good squad player given time.

It wont happen though. To develop more he needs games which he wont get with Arteta and Neville in the middle. He'll be on his way and we'll get someone else in on loan next season, but I do like him.

I dont think we've seen him play enough to give a proper judgement, but I'm feeling 'no' at the moment.

Your right, we havent, we are being slightly harsh, i mean POSSIBLY if he had the same amount of games as Fellaini he might look a hell of a lot better, but as i said in my post, he needs games and i cant see him getting many when Mikel is back.

TBH, he's not very good. I think iv seen enough of him to know he's not going to make it. That might be a bit harsh but fair.

How many starts as he had since he 1st came in? 7 spaced over 7-8 months? And the first 3-4 of those matches he looked very good, more so than the Felli did IMO - he practially spared our blushes against Liege (he could be a very good player for us in Uefa cup games).

Its very stop-start for a player who doesnt know english, the english game, the team, and was pretty much thrown into the deep end when he 1st arrived.

His passing was dreadful last night that was true, but he fit into the team that defended superbly. It was never a case of "Castillo's losing us this game" with Gerrard or Alonso just waltzing through our midfield (which happened so many times earlier in the season), we looked solid across defense and the centre of the midfield it was just a case of keeping the ball and finding outlets going forward (only Pienaar did any of that) that put us on the back foot.

But we all know his future isnt here and Moyes aint that much a fan of it, so the writings on the wall for him.

But I'd still have him as back up for Neville and over Rodwell.

I think he's pants, don't think hes got anything to his game that makes him worth keeping.....

distinctly average at best (n)

I think we need to see him a lot more before deciding but up to now the fee is too high.

totaly agree we've not seen enough to judge him arselves,he needs 10 back to back games to be totaly fair and i don't think he'll get them

I think Moyes will make the right decision over wheter or not to keep him.

We as fans havn't seen him play enough, so I wouldn't spend £5m on him unless he has real potential that hasn't shone thorugh yet because of injury and he'll come throgh in the second half of the season.

Mind you £5m will be nothing in transfer fees in about two years anyway.

on what basis have we seen enough ?
he fitted in well at first got injured and has been thrown into a derby, did he play the same pos as earlier in the season i'm not sure ?
i have said no earlier, mainly on the basis that the money needs to be spent elsewhere, but as i also said i've seen him boss a couple of international games so he deffo has the ability there, unfortunately though we have to make a decision, is it this window it has to be made or can we keep him 'til the summer ? you just know that if he goes back we will get an injury the next game, probably likewise if we sign him then he will pick up a knock.

Essien no go.
N'Zonzi no go.
Ofoe last minute deal.

I shall cool my enthusiasm, like I would have if Essien had signed as he's been knackered for three years and is now 29. Very glad it wasnt a call into Hargreaves.
