Hes just signing his mates at this point

Jesus Christ would this be a bad signing. The cheek of the richest club in the world to include him in a bid for digne as well, couldn't make it up

We are skint, yet paying money for a player who is free in a few months from a team below us in the league and who don’t want to give him a new deal as they now have money to buy better players.

Totally get this tactic.

@MrGrumpy
He's made 34 tackles and won 23, so a pretty good success rate (67.65). better than our midfielders, other than Delph (88.89 per cent but obviously fewer games).

He's only made 5 interceptions which is below average (which is 9). He's above average for duels (117) and has won 58 which is very slightly above average (49 per cent compared to 48).

Recoveries 58 which is bang on the average.

If I put it to Everton and Newcastle mids only...

He ranks second for dribbled past (26 compared to Allan's 47, which shows the lack of positional discipline from both as the only other player above 20 is Almiron (25), an attacking player).

Tackles he ranks fourth for attempts (34), behind Allan (45), Murphy (37) and Willock (35). His success rate ranks fourth too.

Interceptions he is below everybody apart from Davies and Gomes. Duels he is 7th out of 14. Duels won 8th out of 14. Duel success he's 5th. Recoveries, he's 9th.

He’s not signing his mates though, he’s signing cheap players he knows in order to get us out of this mess and free up money for better players. Think walcot-Townsend and Gray
Longstaff for delph plus tens of thousands a week will improve us and give money for better players
It’s not ideal, but it’s better than the mess we were/in squad wise

He’s certainly not going to be a regular starter, why sign him for money, when we can get him free in the summer? I personally would not sign him at all, because , he’s Tommy D Mark 2. We already have Tommy D Mark 1 and we don’t need to give him a long contract on wages which will make it difficult to shift him when Benitez is sacked.
Completely different type of player.
