SCRAP VAR

Did the video of that updated version include a comment about a manual check of the information about when the ball is kicked?
If so, Lee Mason says “Hi!”
I might have misheard.
It might have done, the final system (which is in use for the world cup and beyond) has a sensor in the ball so even that part is automated.

That new semi automatic system is clearly better than Lee Mason locked in a room drawing lines freehand in crayon.

But, as a few have said in here already, the big sticking point for me, is the loss of proper goal celebrations. You see it already now at grounds, people not fully celebrating cos they’re thinking it’s gonna get chalked off.

If the trade off, of having perfect decisions via VAR is the loss of true spontaneous celebrations in the ground, that’s not a trade off worth taking, in my view.
it's the reason most young kids grow up dreaming of playing. scoring and running away celebrating. var will eventually destroy this

Honestly, the biggest issue I ahve with VAR in the Premier League is the "Clear and Obvious" crap. If the player is not a mm offside, it's not clear because cameras really can't capture it. Same side tho, if a player like VvD hits a player like Onana, they should absolutely be able to tell the ref to look again without saying "well...you MIGHT have seen this but maybe not ok". It's too subjective. Pick a lane ffs.

The standard of referring is just not good enough and referees are, clearly, too invested in the commercial narrative of the league. Until that changes (IMHO) it won't matter if VAR is used or not ...

Farce! That is what we call level. The offside rule was brought in to stop people goal hanging and that is all. How can someone play on the line and try to judge if their big toe is in front or not? It means you always have to start 2/3 foot back just to allow for limbs to be taken out of the equation.

If they want a system to draw lines then it should be 'is any overlap between the defender and attacker at all' if the lines can't pass through both then it's offside.

They can also be pedantic about crosses/passes where the attacker is in front of ball as that is fair enough.

But that decision just shows these people are hell bent on ruining football.

Juventus 94th min winner disallowed for offside yesterday in serie A by VAR. The reason being that Bonucci went to head the ball although him doing that wouldn't have affected if it had gone in or not. This is irrelevant as var decided to focus only on the box, however in this second picture you can see he was clearly onside anyway.

Var didn't look at the whole picture. Just shows its not just an issue in England.

Also from another game the man utd handball penalty against them on Thursday in europe was a joke. The whole perception of var and watching certain images and certain speeds is a big problem. If var is to be kept then these are what needs to be worked on.

Looking at the full picture and doing so with the right perspective is what needs to be done.

Just watching some videos of this on YT. Another massive VAR balls up. I don't know how true this is as I haven't seen it mentioned anywhere else, but according to one of the YT videos, allegedly the match officials have come out and said that the defenders' position by the corner flag was taken into consideration when the official VAR lines were drawn, and are claiming it was correctly ruled as offside. They apparently claimed that the lines shown by Sky Italia (as per your image) were incorrectly drawn. If so, that is completely laughable, as the attacker was clearly onside.

Don't you remember a world before perfect offside decisions?! Bodies piled high in the streets! Monsters stalked the valleys and children died by the thousands of bunions! Is that a world you want to go back to? How did we ever LIVE?
Ha ha I remember that the conversation was always about why aren’t we using technology.

We are though discussing a point where decisions made by millimetres but surely the decision on when a pass is made is also questionable - the ball will touching a foot on different frames - when decisions are called will give var decision maker so room to play with

This was basically Arsene Wenger's proposal to fix VAR.
