I know that's relevant to what others are spending, but he never had access to class established players.

I think Rangers now have a manager, with an even better cv than slippy g when they hired him. On paper Rangers have a superior replacement. So going by logic and barring a major disaster, this should a seamless managerial transition.

He wont be as committed to Rangers as Gerrard was.

Gerrard pretty much knew his managerial career was on the line, and was determined to get a good job done or else he'd be seen as damaged goods not hacking it in a league way below the PL standard. GVB probably knows he can get back into football in Holland or an eastern or southern European league at a decent sized club if it falls flat for him now at Rangers.
