Scottish football

Morton had a good side in the mid sixties when I started watching football. They reached the old League Cup final only to lose heavily. Alan Mcgraw was the man and Hibs poached him. His son played for Hibs too.
Aye, McGraw was some player, think he still holds the record for the most goals scored in a single season in Scotland with 56 goals. Was also an excellent manager for Morton.

Gemmell told the story that he and Bertie Auld - both protestants - used to torment their team mates on a Friday by tucking into big juicy steaks instead of the mandatory fish!

Steak and chips, of course, was the meal of choice for all footballers in the sixties!

@ToffeeHibs Hibs are barely on the telly these days (Which is playing havoc with my watching them being that I'm a Plazzy arm chair Hibee), how's Grant Holt doing?

He's been great Mikey. Not scored many goals though. Scored against Hearts last week, first goal for a couple of months I think. His hold up play has been very good and he's an integral part of the team. I love the guy, seems to get Hibs and the fans.

..yes, I posted it in the Dead Thread. I can remember watching the grainy black and white pictures on telly when he scored in that great European Cup success. Another of the Lisbon Lions gone.
Me too. Been to a game at that old stadium as well. Saw Benfica there while their new stadium was readied for Euro 2004.
What a team that Celtic team was. Used to love watching the likes of Gemmell, Lennox, Johnstone and McNeil, who I see this week has been confirmed sadly as suffering with dementia.
I can't say it all seemed like yesterday, but surely no more than a couple of months ago? Where did all that go?

..it's frightening how fast the years go. As you say, that team had some fantastic footballers and I think they were all born within 30 miles of Glasgow.

Hibs Vs Aberdeen and Rangers Vs Celtic as the Cup Semi Finals

Going to be really tough for Hibs to retain the Cup, but I'm glad they're sharing such company at the Semi Final stage

Makes me optimistic about what could happen next season if Hibs manage to get promoted
