Scottish football

The juniors are still very much there. Though they don't seem to produce many players for the Scottish league system. Many prefer to stsy junior these days!

Just a small point. Denis Law never actually played in Scottish football (something thst surprised me, I was convinced he started out at Aberdeen) he actually He started off at Huddersfield town. Dalglish had about 7 years at Celtic and came through their youth system. Graeme Souness started out at Tynecastle boys club (are/where a feeder club to Hearts before starting his pro career at Tottenham.

I knew Law played at Huddersfield, but assumed he had played up there. And always thought Souness was at Middlesborough, then the lovables. No idea he was at Spurs.

But even at the team I grew up watching, Bristol City, there was always a decent clutch of Scottish players. Not many internationals, but good enough to play Div 1 in those days. Off the top of my head, Gerry Gow, Tom Ritchie, Jimmy Mann, Donnie Gillies, probably one or two others. So half, ish, of a Div 1 side made up of Scots.

Different days, granted, mind.

Its not just Scottish football thats in a mess imo. English football is poor for producing talent. Out of the 3 home nations and the Irish- the majority of their players play in England- that went to the Euros, there was only 1 genuine world class player, Bale. Thats 1 in 92 players

Never thought of it like that, blimey.

Money, or lack of talent? Bit of both I guess.

If you don't mind can't we just enjoy him being at Aberdeen for a bit longer. Thanks.

As a side note, I saw him (McInnes) yesterday morning at the petrol station all kitted up for taking training. There would be none of that day to day with the national team. As has been said elsewhere he'll go to Rangers eventually, sadly.

The ball started rolling on Strachan's demise once he got that muppet McGhee involved IMO
Just met a nice family on the tram on the way back from Alicante. The old guy is originally from Glasgow (Celtic fan) but they live in Inverness. He told me Aberdeen fans hate Rangers even more than Celtic.

Mind you he followed that up by saying ''mind you, everyone hates Rangers''.

I've been to a few Highland League games this year as I do every season. It's been brilliant , mainly because my local team are unbeaten , top of the league , banging in an average of 5 goals per match. I've always tried to watch the top games, and local derbies and , not knowing the players , pick out the individuals who are standing out and ask my mates about them afterwards to see if there's confirmation with my view.

To save those interested having to Google , the team is Buckie Thistle. Two good signings and a good manager have transformed them from last season . Signing an excellent striker has allowed them to play 2 up front in a 4-4-2 format with the ball moved forward at a rapid pace, almost Leicester like. They video the highlights for showing Sunday night, and the recent second half 5-0 demolition of a strong Brora team is worth Googling and watching.

Hope this works

Buckie Thistle emerged victorious this week in a shock demolition of Brora Rangers.

Buckie went into the match unbeaten and top of the table and look good value for their place at the head of the pack going into the next round of matches.

Keep following The Big Game on The Press and Journal website for more match-day action as we bring video highlights from games across the Highland League over the course of the season.

Very true, the amount of pure hatred generated by some Aberdeen fans for Rangers is shocking.

I've heard of him. Supposed to be a good player. Just typical that Scotland would over look a talented player. Hope he stays at Morton for a couple of years and gains experience. If he was to move. Hearts would be a better move for him at this stage. More chance of first team football and contiuned development.
He's been fantastic, so far, this season, and is basically the reason we're playing Aberdeen in the League cup semi final next Saturday. Obviously we won't be able to hold on to him and I agree with you that Hearts would be his best bet. His dad was a Hearts player and possibly at the same time as current manager Robbie Neilson.

any particular reason you know of?
Loads of fighting going off and on the pitch, afaik. Plus Aberdeen were very successful back in the day, and that broke a lengthy Rangers run or something, in the 80s.

Didn't Ricksen kick someone in the chest and refused to apologise saying "the boy needed straightening out" or something. Wonder why people hate them lol
