Perhaps so, but the quality of the Scottish leagues has just fell beyond repair. Personally, I don't think Celtic would even do too well in the Championship nowadays. Such has the league regressed.
Hibs may have gotten through, but how confident are you of the progression of those three and Celtic going to the groups in Europe?
Celtic Vs. Rosenborg then AEK Athens
Rangers Vs. Osijek then potentially Maribor
Hibs Vs. Asteras Tripoli then potentially Molde
Aberdeen Vs. Burnley then Basaksehir
My prediction is only Celtic remain after this round, which is a shame cause I like the home nations to do well, would mean everything to Aberdeen etc to have a group stage campaign!
It really hasn't fallen beyond repair at all
The issue is that they don't get paid a fair enough amount of money for their TV rights
However, BT Sport want to have exclusive rights to Scottish football and will be prepared to put the biggest ever offer on the table to acquire them
Attendances at matches have actually gone up since Rangers were liquidated as it restored a lot of supporters faith in the game. Had Rangers been parachuted in to the SPL then a lot of people would have given up with the game, at which point it truly would have been "Armageddon" for Scottish Football
Unlike SKY, BT actually treat Scottish Football like it's important, unlike SKY who treat it as just the Old Firm and nothing else, and in time perception can become reality
It will take a while for things to fully improve continentally, but domestically Scottish Football is actually relatively strong at the moment, with fan engagement better than it was prior to Rangers going under
To judge it purely on what goes on in Europe is wrong, especially as during the "Glory Years" of the 90's and 00's during the duopoly Scottish Clubs won a grand square of nothing in Europe. Indeed, getting to the CL group stage and maybe a knock out game was the best the league winners could have been expected to get, which is exactly how it is now, so in that regard there's been no change at all
