There's been an increasing narrative in punditry that those pens only get awarded in European competitions.

Nonsense of a penalty just like it was vs Dewsbury-Hall
I dont remember us getting any of those type of handball penalties ourselves. We had 2 against us in the first fortnight of the season alone. The idea these things even out is just not true.

…..hope I’m wrong but just has a feel of ‘glorious failure’ for Hearts. Hopefully they heed the words of Sir Alf Ramsey after W Germany equalised in ‘66, ‘you’ve won it once, now go out and win it again’.

By the way, great goal by Chermiti for Rangers (worth a look at).

why does it actually matter if a ball deflects or is stopped by a hand by accident?

the rule was invented to stop players from picking up the ball and running with it

need a rule change, make that an indirect free kick. youre still punished for using arm, but its not a free strike on goal with a 75% chance of scoring from a cross that probably had less than 5

I guess it probably did hit his hand first seeing it back, but it’s also not hand to ball. To give a penalty when it was more than likely not even going to result in a chance just seems way out of proportion as a punishment.

I wonder if they could make it where it’s a direct free kick in the box in a situation like this?

For me handball should all be based on when the ball hits the hand, is it preventing the ball from going to an opposing player in a dangerous area.

If not no pen regardless of arm position.
