How come a bunch of Irish teams are playing in the Scottish Challenge Cup?

I think it's quite refreshing. I mean, why not?

Today we had the spectacle of Union Jackers Linfield watching their team in gang-infested North Edinburgh at Spartans FC. 1000 at the match. No problems and the Ulstermen ran out 2-1 winners.

Ah....so Spartans are from Edinburgh?

I was wondering about them and who they were :)

1000 at the match, you say.

I bet 300 of them were supporting the home team :pint2:

Just a wee aside to the Carlisle game today. Have read loads of nonsense about the Scottish leagues on here, pub leagues, crap leagues, mickey mouse leagues. However, my own team Morton would've probably lost to both teams today, but by god, our fans are 100 times more enthusiastic than either of those teams today. We took 200 to Inverness 2 weeks ago and made more noise than nearly 5,000 at Brunton Park today...alcohol may have played a part in that if I'm being honest, but take into account, we can't buy alcohol at our games.

No but there's plenty of watering holes between greenock and inverness :pint2::pint2::pint2:

Yes. Cracking wee ground and Gordon Strachan is their celebrity backer or something like that. Played them in the Scottish cup a couple of years ago...and lost 2-1
Strachan's mum lives quite near the ground and he was raised in that area.

Apparently he went round to the Spartans with a poly bag from which he produced shirts that he'd worn while winning various trophies including Aberdeen and Leeds. A valuable donation for auction purposes.

Morton 3 v 2 Dunfermline

An amazing second half performance against the league leaders, easily the best 45 mins this season, saw Morton come from 2-0 down at half time to win 3-2. Changes early in the second half were to prove to be the difference, with subs Gary Harkins and wonderkid Jai Quitongo getting a goal each and my M.O.M. Robert Thomson getting the other.:pint2:
