Apologies if already posted elsewhere, but after watching Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows pt. 2 last night for the second time, It was the first time I really paid attention to the 'always' scene involving Severus Snape - played by the late great Alan Rickman.

The skills behind playing such a complex, misunderstood character was a brilliant piece of art from Mr Rickman.

The question is, as someone who has been described as 'cold hearted' at times, is there any particular scenes that have made you have a lump in your throat ?

(Cue all the tough guys who are all testosterone flowing, Stella Artois guzzling, swinging brick for a heart men, pointing and laughing at this soppy soul)

Some of mine are:

Goodnight Mister Tom - generally upsetting seeing the boy a nervous wreck.
The Green Mile - John Coffy's wrongful execution.
The Deathly Hallows pt. 2 - Snape's 'always' scene.
The Boy in the striped Pyjamas - end scene.
I am legend - will smith putting his own dog to sleep (mainly because I put my childhood family pet to sleep less than 24 hours earlier).

Are there any other moments that almost make a grown man cry ?

Fire Away people ;)

You cried over a children's novel mert?

Schindler's List.

Not the scene where they are burning the unearthed bodies and you glimpse the red coat,
but the closing scene where the actual survivors visit Oscar Schindler's tomb with the actors.

Shortly after seeing that film, and just after visiting Anne Franks House,
I got into the elevator of the Pullman Hotel in Amsterdam,
and there, next the the buttons to select the floor you want,
is a plaque for the manufacturer - Schindlers Lifts.

Probably Viggo Mortensen's best performance. Many wouldn't have seen it, it's a shame. Awfully hard movie to watch though.

The main problem with the film is that the book is so brutal and graphic, that they had to " water " the film down to give it any chance of commercial success.

The beggining with Charlize Theron is completely unnecessary imo and nothing like the book.

It's still one of my favourite films though, even though I almost have to psyche myself up to watch it - much like Dead Mens Shoes.

You beat me to it, I only saw it once in the cinema on release as my kids are now too old to want to buy it.

Really, it's such a great movie. Packaged as a kid's movie and with plenty of warm moments, but as good and complete a movie as I think I've ever seen. Even the deus ex machina moment is perfect. Maybe Pixar's best, and they don't make many bad flicks.

I'm turning into a big Wendy in my old age.

Found myself welling up in Ameggedon the other night where Bruce Willis is saying goodbye to his daughter.

Just wanted to console Liv Tyler.
