They've just built apartments on the land you have circled mate. I think previously McBurneys used to own it to store their lorries.

The apartments are on the other side of the canal. McBurneys only rent it afaia.

You're crossing a busy dual carriageway to get to Sandhills as well.

Should never of got rid over the overhead railway, would have took you right passed BMD.

A lot get off after the main race - it’s spread over a much longer time

plus there are no two sets of rival fans at a race day. im not sure what aintree holds on a raceday but im sure its a lot less than almost 53k people!!!

Actually you'd be wrong there - Aintree's capacity is about 75k

Aintree is an annual event and lots of people are from out of town and arrive by coach. People will put up with a lot of inconvenience for a one-off, special event..... far less so for what is supposed to be their regular matchday experience. I'm not interested in horse racing, have only attended once and found it to be chaotic.

I think in the longer term Sandhills needs at least one additional side platform and preferably another station at Vauxhall to split the marshalling burden and improve through put. On Monday I used the Shuttle buses to and from BMD. It was just a few minute journey to/from Liverpool One and if that can be achieved at full capacity, that proximity to town will be the key factor for getting people out of their cars and shifting the numbers of people required effectively.

In fact it seems this application was submitted in October 2024 but has only just been publicised by the Echo

Is the bigger problems the fact that there`s not a lot of room for folks on the station platform, and that there are not enough trains in operation to get them away quickly?

Yes and building a staircase on the platform is going to reduce the space even further , although it's a good idea to have a secondary means of egress.

Here's the Planning application for the station bridge for anyone interested. Whilst it's a start, I don't think having an extra point of access/exit is the main issue here. In my opinion they need to extend the platform.

Its why a second station makes a lot of sense, people heading northbound could use the smaller Sandhill station and a larger new station near Love Lane could handle everyone heading South into the city centre and beyond. Love Lane also has the added benefit of being only a 10 minute walk from the ground so is ideal for those with mobility issues.
Looking on google maps both Kirkdale and Bank Hall are around 1 mile away from Sandhills but Moorefields is almost 2 miles away from Sandhills. It makes perfect sense to have a station between Sandhills and Moorefields and the area around Love Lane near the Titanic is slap bang in the middle making the distance to both around 1 mile to reduce pedestrian traffic.

very surprised its 75kmind you the racecourse is huge and you have all the people standing etc so makes sense now!

If it's even feasible to build a new station there on the viaduct, you're talking tens of millions of pounds (I reckon £50m).

….can’t believe planning permission for people flow improvements were only applied for in late 2024 when the issues were obvious years ago. Rotherham is too comfy in his role, he needs a good wake-up call at the next mayoral election.
