I'd guess that he's looking for some sort of bonus or pay-off from Everton, and Everton are refusing to pay it.

If the 'free to an Italian club' clause is true then the delay post the NY Cosmos interest makes sense, as they will have no doubt offered us a fee. Our preference would therefore be to sell to them rather than let him walk on a free to Sampdoria, hence the comments from Italy about not being able to get hold of anyone.

so why did he not go when they showed interest in him in the summer? in fact when did his family move to Italy? before or after he joined Chelsea? before or after he spurned advances from teams in Italy to join Everton?
